One nice thing about a party in an old tobacco barn is that you can just look through the slats to see outside. You spot her outside, on the far side of the barn from the white farmhouse, smoking a cigarette. You get a good look at her when the headlights of a parking car slice across the field: messy auburn hair, colorless eyes, a gray scarf around her neck. She's wrapped her gray cardigan around her t-shirt, probably to avoid getting her ass kicked now that she doesn't have her bodyguards.
