Royal tour

Annika's POV

We were able to get my school materials and uniform, and Ell is now giving me the tour around the campus. She pointed out where the gymnasium is, the school cafeteria, the boys' dormitory, and where most students hang out during free time.

This school is indeed not what I had imagined and has exceeded my expectations. If I were who I was before, I'm sure I'd be thrilled to study here.

I once loved school. I love reading books and excel in every subject I have. That was in the past, though, when I still had big dreams to fulfill. Right now, my dream doesn't require me to study anymore.

We walked past every building, and Ell showed me where my classroom should be based on my class schedule. The subjects are weird, not the type I had in my previous school.

"This one's for your first class." She said as we passed on one of the rooms. There were only a few students in the hallway since it was way past the dismissal time. She looked at the piece of paper in my hand, which had my schedule.

"Yup, just what I thought. We all had the same class except for this one." And pointed out the fourth subject.

"Elemental Combat training?" I read but it turns out to be more of a question.

"Yeah. It seems we don't have the same element." She shrugged. I looked at her with a questioning look.

"See, this subject focuses on your element. We are grouped based on that. I am Earth, so I get to train with my fellow Earth caster. Look, one question answered." And pointed at the word inside the parenthesis.

Air

A memory flashed in my mind. I tried to ignore it and changed the topic.

"Why are the subjects like this? Is this really a school? "

"Why? Are you expecting to study Trigonometry and Physics in the school of magic?" she snorted.

She has a point. What do I expect? This isn't a normal school.

"Elemental Theory and Manipulation. What's this about?" I asked as we continued walking. This will be my first class tomorrow.

"It's more on the theory of our power. How we can be able to master it, strategies that we could do, the likes."

We stopped at another building, and Ell pointed at the second floor.

"Second class will be in the third room from the right. Magic's Ethics and Law. Its name is self-explanatory. The do's and don'ts of magic." She winked and continued walking.

Ethical, nice.

"Oh, by the way, the third subject is in that building too. We'll go together tomorrow anyway, so there's no use in going up and down the building now." She smiled sheepishly.

Good. I'm tired anyway.

I read the paper.

History of Magic and Myth. This could answer my questions. How did I get to have this magic?

"How about the fourth subject?" I asked.

She pointed on the field at the center of the campus.

"We'll all have it on the open field. I'm sure you saw students training earlier on your way to the dorm."

"Yeah, it's kind of hard to miss."

We were about to head back to our dorm when a group of students stopped in front of us. There were three girls and boys. All paired. They must be lovers from just how close they are to each other.

"Who's that freak you're with, Ell?" a girl asked while gripping the arm of a redheaded boy as if her life depended on it.

It made me wonder if it is natural or dye.

A hundred percent dye, for sure.

"A transferee." Ell responded.

"Who would transfer a month after the school year starts?" she looked at me from head to foot.

"Or were you kicked out because of how hideous your style is?" she mocked, and the other two girls laughed with her.

"You're such a comedian, Alexa." Ell said with a straight face.

"What's her element?" she asked.

"Air." Ell's smile widened.

"Oh, look. What a cute similarity—she's from the humans too. You could be besties." I see Alexa's demeanor change. It's more than just irritation; there's something else in her eyes.

"Ooh, another air caster from the humans. Interesting." The guy at the back chimed in. Both dimples could be seen on both his cheeks.

"Let's not waste time here. Let's go." The red-headed guy looked at me without any emotions and then continued walking.

"Dinner will be served in the dorm's kitchen at six." Ell said, while laying down her bed and playing with her…

"Wait, is that a phone?" I asked.

She looked at me then back to her phone.

"Uhm, yeah." She answered.

"I thought it's not allowed." I sat at the chair at my study table.

"Well, technically you are not allowed." She emphasizes the word you.

"It's standard protocol for those who came from the human territory. I, on the other hand, was born and raised with arcanists. I'm sure the headmaster told you the reasons why you are forbidden. We do not deprive ourselves with technology, you know. Don't worry, you'll have yours back when you are ready." She added without looking at me.

"Why? You want to contact someone?"

"No."

"Left a boyfriend at home?' She teased.

"Rule number one." I said flatly.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever."

I stood up and went in my closet. I pulled out a black box hidden under the pile of clothes and brought it back to where I was sitting. I can sense Ell's eyes on me.

I opened the box, pulled out my phone and my AirPods. Her eyes widen, mouth agape.

I smirked at her.

"What can I say? I'm a rule breaker." I smirked and turned to my screen with the AirPods on both ears.

"Tell me if it's time to eat." I rested my back on the chair, closed my eyes, and allowed myself to drown in the most comforting sound in the world.

Tonight, I rest. Tomorrow, my experiment will begin.

I'll try to enjoy every bit of it.

Besides, life should be fun until it lasts.
