System's Seduction

"Enough daydreaming! You're buying breakfast today, even if you grow wings!" His roommate's sleepy voice broke through Ethan's fog.

"On it."

Ethan jumped out of bed, got dressed quickly, and dashed out of the dorm.

I need air. I need to think.

Outside, he took the [Terminus Shard] from his pocket. The blade glinted in the morning sun.

Real. All real.

His fingers brushed against two wrinkled slips in his jeans:

*Wang Zi Chen - 139XXXX5678*

*Ray Chase - 177XXXX4321*

He called Wang first.

"Yo, who's this?" Wang's voice came through crackling.

"Wang. It's Ethan."

"Holy shit, brother!" Wang's excitement faded quickly. "Wait, why's your area code Jiangxi? You're in college there?"

"Yeah. No idea why Apocalypse Online dumped me in Jiangcheng."

Wang's voice turned sharp. "You went in clueless? What were you doing at 10 PM last night?"

Ethan paused. 10 PM?

Blackout drunk.

He admitted to the drinking spree in the dorm. Silence hung thick until—

"Standard system behavior." John's calm voice joined in. "When you're unconscious, it defaults to your registered residence."

"JOHN! YOU SNOOPING BASTARD!" Wang's shout made Ethan flinch.

So that's why John's here. Ethan imagined the old soldier interrupting Wang's call.

John ignored Wang's outburst. "Are you coming to Jiangcheng? For… the target?"

"Yes." Ethan tightened his grip on the shard. "I need an excuse for my parents first."

"We'll take care of your welcome feast."

"John—how do I use points? When's the next instance?"

"Think 'System'." John's instructions were clear. "Personal Store unlocks after a mission. Four random items—skills, gear, pets. It refreshes weekly."

"Saturday 10 PM is your default entry. Spend points wisely—they disappear if you don't use them."

Ethan muttered "System."
