The Final Gamble

Murong Xiner and the others stood still. Where could they go now? The island was at the center of the disaster, and escape was impossible.

Ethan focused on the catfish demon's movements, his body tense like a spring ready to snap. The mountain that was the Sea God kept rising, its sheer size hard to believe. Then, a huge eye opened along the mountainside.

"Wang Zi Chen staggered back, almost tripping over his own feet. The others flinched in fear, their faces drained at the sight.

But Ethan stayed steady. He had anticipated this. The mountain was just one part of the Sea God's true form. If he had to compare it to something, it looked like the Western dragons of legend—a massive, scaled body with huge bat-like wings, four strong limbs, and a mouth filled with sharp teeth. The "mountain" was probably just its coiled side, its real size hidden beneath the waves.

As the Sea God's eye focused on the island, Ethan felt that familiar, primal fear well up inside him—the feeling of being prey in front of a top predator. He fought it down.

The Sea God is the guardian. It won't hurt us.

Then he saw it.

The catfish demon lifted a trident, its prongs buzzing with unnatural energy. The weapon hummed with power, its surface marked with glowing runes that pulsed like a heartbeat.

The Hellgate Key.

Ethan's adrenaline surged. His fingers reached for the [Terminus Shard] at his throat.

"STOP!"

His shout cut through the chaos. In one smooth motion, he pulled the dagger from its cord and aimed—

Then hesitated.

A thought hit him like lightning.

What if the trident isn't the true source?

He had only one chance with the [Terminus Shard]. If he destroyed the trident and the Apocalypse went on, they were all doomed. And what about the [Coin of Judgment]? The system had made one rule clear:

"Life is priceless. Greater than all else."

Was that a warning or a clue?

His mind raced. Every sea creature he'd seen had only minor traits—gills, scales, fins. But the catfish demon? It was hardly human anymore. Its body had twisted into something entirely monstrous.

The true emissary, the keyholder.

Not the trident.

The demon itself.

Ethan tightened his grip on the [Terminus Shard]. Around him, everything seemed to slow.

The trembling Sea God above.

Wang Zi Chen's panicked swearing.

Murong's keen, calculating gaze.

The fleeing locals.

And the catfish demon, its face twisted in a grotesque expression as it prepared to strike the final blow.

No more second chances.

Ethan exhaled.

"Let's end this."

He hurled the [Coin of Judgment] high into the air—

—and lunged.

The [Terminus Shard] gleamed, a silver flash in the dim light. It pierced the demon's throat before the creature could react.

Gurgling, the demon swayed, its bulging eyes wide in shock. The trident fell from its grip, clattering to the ground as it collapsed.

Dead.

Silence.

Then—

Clink.

The coin landed.

Angel side up.

Victory.

A soft, resonant "Moooo" echoed across the island. The Sea God's enormous eye regarded them for a moment—then slowly closed as the giant being sank beneath the waves. The heavy "BOOM... BOOM..." of its heartbeat faded into the depths.

The fog cleared. The air smelled of salt and rain.

Then—

Drip.

A single raindrop hit Ethan's palm.

In seconds, the sky opened up, a heavy rain pouring down over the island.

Wang Zi Chen blinked. "Uh... did we win?"

As if in reply, a sound rang out in the minds of every player on Earth.
