Chapter 60 Ethical Review Mechanism

The dark elf attendant Benny immediately smiled and said, "Then, honored guest, I recommend purchasing our Minotaur slaves."

"Minotaur slaves are hardworking, requiring little food while accomplishing much. Their intelligence is precisely at the level where they can understand your complex commands, yet insufficient to contemplate life, reflect on the past, or devise ways to slack off."

"Moreover, with the recent collapse of the Minks Orc Empire, the slave market has been flooded with orcs and orc sub-species, causing Minotaur slave prices to drop significantly. This presents an excellent opportunity for a distinguished Breeder like yourself to make purchases."

The dark elf attendant Benny advised Locke: "Currently, a Minotaur slave costs only twice as much as a human male slave, but can perform three to four times the daily labor."

"And Minotaur slaves only need to eat grass - their food costs are absolutely minimal."

"A male Minotaur now costs just 5 Magic Stones, whereas previously it was 10."

"Admittedly, our slaves are slightly more expensive than other shops."

"But all our slaves have undergone mental reconstruction through School of Enchantment magic, guaranteeing they would never attack their masters. This is incomparable to those piles of cheap slaves sold elsewhere for just one Magic Stone."

Dark elf attendant Benny continued: "Moreover, these slaves have undergone thorough physical examinations to ensure no hidden diseases, and all possess certain professional skills. For instance, if you purchase Minotaur slaves now, I would prioritize selling you those skilled in agricultural techniques."

Locke asked, "Human slaves seem to be cheaper."

Most importantly, when it came to farming, he felt he could trust humans more.

Dark elf attendant Benny quickly responded: "But honored guest, Lilith's Cottage is a wizard organization under the White Wizard Association."

"We have strict ethical review mechanisms here. Extensive use of human slaves might violate certain ethical review regulations... Many of my clients have become entangled in troubles because of this, so I generally advise avoiding large-scale use of human slaves."

"Especially for industries important to you."

Locke asked, "What kind of problems could this cause?"

The dark elf attendant Benny lowered his voice: "Honored guest, within the White Wizard Association's jurisdiction, the human slaves available are generally death row convicts, serious offenders, or soldiers from defeated nations."

"If you extensively use human slaves and even one has questionable origins, your enemies might take notice and cause trouble for you."

"The ethical review mechanism established by the White Wizard Association explicitly prohibits turning wizard apprentices into slaves. That's the bottom line among White Wizards - an absolute taboo that must never be violated."

Locke said, "I understand. Then I'll purchase Minotaur slaves. I need six Minotaurs. Here are thirty Magic Stones."

"Give me six Minotaurs with professional agricultural skills."

Six Minotaur slaves should be more than enough to tend to a five-acre botanical garden.

The dark elf attendant, Benny, immediately smiled and said, "Very well. Please come this way to sign the contract. If any issues arise later, you can always return to us."

"You get what you pay for. The slaves in our establishment are guaranteed to be problem-free."

Locke entered the shop, where the Slave Warehouse contained even more iron cages, each holding a slave. Some of the slaves inside appeared to be of higher quality than those displayed outside.

After Locke and Benny finished signing the contract, Benny led him to a large iron cage holding a group of Minotaur slaves.

Benny unlocked the cage with a key and selected six from the group.

Pointing at the six muscular and robust Minotaurs, Benny said, "Customer, you may inspect them. Once you confirm everything is satisfactory, you can take them with you."

"These Minotaurs have been subjected to a specific School of Enchantment trick. Simply activate the designated ritual, and the master imprinted in their minds will automatically switch to you. Crush this Rune stone and ensure they see you first."

"The Orc Empire is a semi-nomadic, semi-agrarian empire. These six Minotaurs are lower-class nobles skilled in farming, with some expertise."

Locke glanced at one of his Gray Dwarf servants and ordered them to briefly communicate with the six Minotaur slaves. After confirming their intelligence was intact, their farming skills were genuine, and even discovering to his delight that the Minotaurs were literate, Locke informed Benny that he was satisfied.

Indeed, literacy would make training them much easier.

At the same time, Locke couldn't help but sigh at the harsh reality of the Wizard World compared to the mortal realm—an entire empire could be sold into slavery. Clearly, that Orc Empire had offended some wizard organization.

Such a thing would never happen on the Corfu Continent.

Yet in the Wizard World, these six Minotaur nobles had depreciated in value due to inflation, with a single high-quality Minotaur noble costing only 5 Magic Stones. And this was the price for a trained, pre-imprinted slave ready for activation with just one Rune stone.

If purchased directly, a single Magic Stone could probably buy a Minotaur noble slave.

Locke crushed the Rune stone right there in the shop. Immediately, the eyelids of the six Minotaurs grew heavy, as if drowsy, and gradually closed.

The dark elf attendant, Benny, quietly stepped back.

Three seconds later, the six Minotaur slaves opened their eyes, their first sight being Locke. In an instant, their expressions shifted from numbness to fervent excitement and loyalty.

"Great wizard master," the six Minotaur slaves said, gazing at Locke with reverence and devotion.

Locke gave them a quick scan and confirmed everything was in order.

This was the classic cantrip model from the School of Enchantment—the [Lesser Slave Mind Brand], roughly only 0.3 rings in strength, not particularly potent.

Thus, it would hardly have any effect on a third-class wizard apprentice.

Moreover, this type of cantrip model can easily be broken by strong external forces. For example, when facing imminent death, the intense pain and fear of mortality might allow ordinary humans to break the spell.

Alternatively, if the target experiences powerful emotional fluctuations, they might partially overcome the spell as well.

Regardless, a cantrip model of this level is more than sufficient for minotaur slave laborers.

After all, Locke only needed them to work—not fight for him—so this level of spell was adequate to control them.

And over time, even if they gradually became aware of something, they likely wouldn't choose to resist.

At the end of the day, work was work, no matter where it was done.

The dark elf attendant Benny seized the opportunity to pitch his services enthusiastically: "Honored guest, is there anything else I can assist you with? Perhaps... exotic and alluring slave beauties, or—"

Locke cut him off. "I heard your establishment has rare Catwoman Queen slaves with ancient Bloodlines?"
