What a Lousy Reward

"Game? What game?" The village elder stared blankly at Wu Fan.

Looking at the village elder, Wu Fan suddenly remembered that this was just an "NPC," not the old man from before. Why was he explaining this to him?

"Forget about that. If you don't have any artifacts or divine beasts, what do you have?" Wu Fan asked.

"Nothing," the village elder shook his head.

"Nothing?!" Wu Fan jumped up at the elder's words. "I completed your task, and you have no reward? Are you trying to keep it for yourself?"

Feeling Wu Fan's suspicious gaze, the village elder reacted as if stung. "If I don't have it, I don't have it. What would I keep? Am I that kind of person?"

Wu Fan carefully examined the village elder, stroking his chin. "I think you are."

Wu Fan's words made the village elder's face turn red. His body trembled as he pulled a book from his pocket and threw it to Wu Fan. "Take it and get out."

"You really were trying to keep it! Elder, you're so bad." Wu Fan held the bound book and said to the elder with realization.

"Get lost! Get out!" The village elder was so angry with Wu Fan that he almost choked.

"Alright then." With the reward in hand, even though it wasn't artifacts or divine beasts, it was better than nothing. Wu Fan didn't want to argue and left with it.

The village elder watched Wu Fan's departing figure and muttered to himself, still angry. "Sigh, that kid made me give away my family heirloom. Well, consider it a welcome gift for him."

On the other side, Wu Fan eagerly opened the book, wanting to see what it was.

When Wu Fan opened the book, it transformed into a beam of golden light and entered his body. Then, he heard that mechanical voice again.

"Congratulations, you have learned Appraisal."

Wu Fan immediately opened his stats panel and found a new skill list in his character interface. At this moment, there was only one skill in this list: Appraisal.

Appraisal: Use on target to obtain target information. The level of detail obtained is related to the power difference between both parties.

"Appraisal? Not bad." After reading the description of Appraisal, Wu Fan was quite satisfied. Although it wasn't as good as artifacts or divine beasts, this Appraisal skill was quite practical. As the saying goes, know yourself and know your enemy, and you will win a hundred battles out of a hundred. With this Appraisal skill, he could obtain information about his opponents first and act more strategically.

"I wonder if the old village elder has any other good things. I'll have to get more treasures from him when I have the chance." Wu Fan thought about how to get more treasures from the village elder, while the elder sneezed on the other side, feeling uneasy.

"Cock-a-doodle-doo."

When Wu Fan was about to explore this "newbie village," he saw several chickens not far ahead. He instinctively wanted to attack them as monsters, but he saw a middle-aged woman trying to catch those chickens.

Wu Fan used Appraisal on those chickens, and a piece of information appeared before his eyes.

"Rooster: Two years old, raised by Aunt Wang. Plump body, delicious meat."

Wu Fan was embarrassed. Fortunately, he hadn't attacked them. This clearly wasn't a monster. If he had killed them, their owner would have demanded compensation.

"Boy, help me catch them," the middle-aged woman said to Wu Fan at this moment.

"Me?" Wu Fan pointed at himself and said, "Sure."

Since there was nothing else to do, plus Wu Fan realized he was in a game world, helping these villagers was a "quest." Completing it would give rewards, so he naturally wouldn't refuse.

However, Wu Fan thought catching chickens would be easy, but in reality, it took more time than fighting monsters. These chickens were too cunning. They would run away when someone approached. Wu Fan and the woman, Aunt Wang, spent over an hour catching all the chickens.

"Thank you, boy," Aunt Wang said gratefully to Wu Fan.

"You're welcome," Wu Fan said politely, but his eyes were fixed on Aunt Wang, clearly waiting for her reward.

"You've worked so hard. If I don't show my gratitude, I'll feel bad. Wait here," Aunt Wang said and turned back to her house.

Here it comes, here it comes! The reward is coming!

Would it be an artifact or a divine beast, or maybe an excellent skill?

Wu Fan was full of anticipation.

Aunt Wang didn't keep Wu Fan waiting long and soon came out of her house with a large bowl.

"Boy, here's some chicken I cooked earlier. Try it," Aunt Wang said, handing the bowl to Wu Fan.

Wu Fan was stunned. What's going on? Where's my reward? Where's my artifact? Even if you don't give me an artifact, you could at least give me some equipment, which would be better than this broken stick. What's a bowl of chicken? What kind of reward is this?

"Don't you like my cooking?" Seeing Wu Fan hesitating to take it, Aunt Wang's expression changed slightly, seemingly displeased.

"No, no," Wu Fan quickly said. "Forget about the chicken. I only helped a little bit."

"How can that be? This is my sincere thanks. If you don't take it, you're looking down on me," Aunt Wang's displeased expression became even more obvious.

Seeing this, Wu Fan had no choice but to take it, forcing a smile. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it." Seeing Wu Fan take it, Aunt Wang's face lit up again. "If you like it, you can come to my place anytime."

"Alright then," Wu Fan replied.

Aunt Wang went back satisfied. Wu Fan stood there for a while, and seeing that Aunt Wang wasn't coming out again, he finally realized that the bowl of chicken in his hand was his reward for helping Aunt Wang catch the chickens.

"Maybe this chicken is special and eating it can increase my stats?" Wu Fan speculated.

Immediately, Wu Fan took a piece of chicken with anticipation and put it in his mouth.

Delicious! So delicious!

As soon as the chicken entered his mouth, Wu Fan felt a rich fragrance fill his mouth, stimulating his taste buds, making him close his eyes involuntarily and savor it carefully.

"This chicken is so delicious." When the whole piece of chicken was in his mouth, Wu Fan opened his eyes, his eyes full of shock.

Wu Fan had eaten chicken before, but today he discovered that the chicken he had eaten before was really terrible compared to the piece he had just eaten. Compared to that piece of chicken, it was really far inferior. Wu Fan could swear that the piece of chicken he had just eaten was the most delicious piece of chicken he had ever eaten in his life.

Looking at the remaining chicken in the bowl, Wu Fan's eyes lit up. He couldn't care less about his appearance and started eating with large bites.
