Chapter 4: It Called Them

[Win – 12:08 p.m.]

We killed it.

The Screamer.

Or… something that looked like a student, but shrieked like hell had a voice.

But killing it didn't stop what came next.

Through the broken glass of the school's main gate, we saw them—

hundreds of zombies, marching closer.

Drawn by the sound.

Like bloodhounds to a whistle.

[12:09 p.m.]

"No way we're getting out that way," Lin says through gritted teeth.

Palm slams the bolt on the metal gate. "That thing literally screamed them here?! What kind of zombie has a call button?!"

I don't answer.

Because behind the fear…

behind the panic…

I'm still thinking about Kao's words:

🍚 :"Close your ears. Kill the throat."

She'd known exactly what to do.

Too fast. Too calm. Too… ready.

[12:12 p.m.]

We're hiding again — back inside Block B.

Classroom lights are flickering. Blood is still drying on Palm's sleeve.

There are 12 of us left.

The group's splitting — not physically, but emotionally.

👥: "We should've never left the first floor!"

"If that thing didn't scream, we'd be out by now!"

"We're all gonna die here anyway!"

Some of the students are on the verge of cracking.

One of them — a boy named Din, from the back benches — throws a desk at the wall, yelling at no one.

Kao watches.

Emotionless.

[12:15 p.m.]

Suddenly—

BANG. BANG. BANG.

Something's hitting the gate.

Not scraping.

Not moaning.

Banging.

Palm flinches. "They're trying to break in."

"No,"

Lin whispers, squinting through the slats.

We all go silent.

Then she says:

"They're not trying."

"They're coordinating."

[12:18 p.m.]

We fall back to the science lab. It has only one entrance and old metal shelves we can jam against the door.

Din keeps pacing.

"Why aren't the teachers saving us?"

"What if no one's left out there?"

"What if we're the only ones?"

No one answers him.

[12:22 p.m.]

Palm is curled up by the sink. I sit next to him. He's still shaking.

"I thought zombies were just... mindless. You know?"

he mumbles.

I nod.

"Who knew there was a siren type among them",

And definitely not ones that scream a siren and bring death.

[12:25 p.m.]

Then we hear it again.

From the hallway.

Not loud.

Not piercing.

But humming.

Just like the first one.

Soft. Innocent. A lullaby.

"Shut up,"

Lin hisses.

"No one move."

We kill the lights.

Everyone crouches behind shelves, lab tables, equipment carts.

Palm grabs my wrist, fingers cold.

Kao stands upright.

Not hiding.

I whisper, "Kao, crouch down. Now."

She doesn't.

The door creaks open.
