ADELINE'S POV
"I expect you all to be done and ready before the time of auction. It is soon." Veronica walks into the room as the gurls and I do our make-up. Some of the girls tried to pick a fight with Silver by hiding some of the clothes she had picked up for herself but we quickly found the clothes and took them back before it was too late.
I know the girls hate me and want to see me fall but they also know that Veronica privileges me above all of them. They know that she calls me her Angel and they probably know that I am already promised to someone else so as much as they would like to rip my heart out and watch me bleed on the floor, they cannot do anything.
Veronica walks and stops right in front of me as she stares at the make-up that I have on my face. I didn't put on faux lashes but I used mascara to make them pop out and give them a sort of innocent look. The entire point of me being called Angel by Veronica is that I am supposed to look angelic and polite and innocent so my make-up has to be there but not enough that it makes me look to mature. I didn't do too much with my eye brows either. All I did was trim them and fill them in with some chestnut eyebrow pencil to match my chestnut hair.
I put light black eye liner under my eyes and complimented them with something white and for my lips, I lined them wt. brown liner but focused more on a pink lip tint and gloss. My make up is basically done already and I don't have much to do anymore, and of course, the dress I chose to wear is white.
Veronica looks at my face with a contemplative look on her face. Her lip twitches and I think she might smile but Veronica almost never smiles unless she's watching someone suffer. I hate the way my body betrays me by feeling a sens of accomplishment by the way she looks at me. I feel a sense of satisfaction as she stares down at me. Satisfied that she is pleased with the way I look.
"You look perfect." She says, her voice as emotionless as I expected it to be.
"Ace!" She screams and at the familiar name, my heart falls to my stomach. The guard walks in, carrying in a pair of white fairy wings. It's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and under different circumstances, I would have been so happy and honored to wear something like it, but now, knowing that I have to wear these wings so that predators can stare at me in awe and think of all the ways they want to eat me up, I just feel disgusted.
Ace walks towards me and I want to run. I want to run and never look back because he is the one who violated Colton's sister and he is the one who shot her dead. I'm scared of him and I hate it. I hate how weak this place has made me. He places the wigs beside the short white gown I chose to wear for the auction and Veronica looks at the ensemble with a proud smile on her face.
"You will turn many heads tonight, Angel. I cannot wait." She says and then walks away from me. She stops in front of Silver and she basically doesn't need to say anything. Her make up is flawless with red being the most dominant color on her face. Veronica stares at her with satisfaction on her face and then touches the dress Silver picked for herself lightly before moving forwards to inspect the other girls.
As she moves from table to table, the scowl on her face seems to be more prominent as she stops in front of one of the girl's tables. Before I know it, I hear a sharp sound as Veronica lands a slap to the girl's face.
"Are you trying to embarrass me you worthless bitch?" Veronica raises her voice and all I can feel is fear, not wanting to be in the shoes of anyone who disappoints her.
"Your color is supposed to be black so what the fuck are you doing wearing dark green?" Veronica's eyes widen as she questions the girl.
"Answer me!" She screams again, another slap landing on the girl's face.
"I couldn't find anything good in the color black. I'm sorry. This is the best dress I could find with a color close to mine!" The gurl cries and I know she will have to do her make-up all over again. We all spent the entirety if the day doing our make-up and picking out our clothes and now this poor girl will have to do that all over again and she might not make I in time.
It seems like a trivial task but it really isn't. It takes a lot to please these people and one mistake and you're going to end up dead.
"Are you trying to call me stupid?" Veronica asks in disbelief with a scoff as she stares at the pile of clothes in front of the girl. "Are you trying to tell me you couldn't find anything good in your color out of all the clothes here? Are you a fool? Hmm? No one is going to buy you if you act fucking stupid and I think you know very welk what happens to stupid people in here so what the fuck do you mean by that!?"
"I'll look again Veronica. I'll look again." The girl cries out.
"You better. Because the auction is soon and I do not want to look like a fool." Veronica groans and stomps out of the room and the girl immediately starts thrashing around, cleaning the makeup off her face desperately with baby wipes. She has to be ready on time and I have no idea how she's going to do it but it seems so impossible and I want to help her. I look over to silver and from the look in m eyes, she nods her head in understanding and we both stand up in a hurry towards the girl.
Her dress color needs to be black so Silver and I move to her pile and start filtering through all the black dresses we can find.
"What the fuck are you doing?" The girl asks us with confusion on her face.
"Look, we're trying to help okay? This isn't the time to be stubborn, so just focus on your make-up and let Silver and I pick out some dresses for you." I tell her in a strong voice and I can tell she's desperate because all she does is nod her head once and continue focusing on the mirror.
"Ditch the black lipstick. I know your color is black, but you can play with other colors too. You're very pale so a soft pink color will look perfect on your lips. Also tone it down with the mascara and eye liner. You should know when it comes to make up with Veronica and these men, less is more." Silver comments and the girl does her make-up.
"This is perfect." I say as I pick out a short black dress from the set of dresses. It has some white to it and it'll hug her body perfectly and show some skin just like how these sick bastards want.
"But that has white on it." The girl objects. "It's pretty but that's why I didn't choose it."
"Trust me." That's all I say as I hold up the dress and stare at her. I'm not sure why but she lets me pick the dress for her. Once she's done with her make-up and once she's done following all the advice Silver gave her concerning what to put on her face, we leave her to get dressed and then we head over to our own tables to throw our clothes on.
Silver helps me put on my wings and once we're all done and ready, we form a line. Silver and the girl we just helped stand on either side of me and I give the girl a look of encouragement.
"You look good. I promise you do so you have nothing to worry about, okay?" I try to assure her and she lets out a sigh of relief just as Veronica bursts through the door. She stands in front of us and then she takes a second look at the girl Silver and I just helped standing beside me and I see satisfaction in her eyes.
I'm not going to lie and say I was worried she still wouldn't approve because Veronica is unpredictable like that but I think Silver and I did a pretty good job.
"Okay girls!" Veronica claps her hands. "Tonight is the most important night of your lives."
At her statement, I scoff lightly but she must have heard me because she shoots me a death stare that makes me straighten my back and keep my mouth shut. The most important night of my live my asshole. The most important day of my life was probably the day I got my license to be a therapist and help people who were messed up in the head.
I think Veronica needs a therapist more than anyone I have ever seen. She needs to get her mind checked so bad and I a not even exaggerating. There is something extremely wrong with her and the best thing for this world would be for her to just die.
"You all have done a good job and you all look pretty decent. Let's hope out guests for tonight think the same."
