Chapter 6: A Mission

While a few students were still discussing who could have possibly beaten Terry beyond recognition, school activities went on as usual.

Apart from that morning when they arrived at school together, Atlas had not seen Freya again. And even after getting to school today, there was still no sight of her.

Just when he was beginning to worry a little thinking that something might have happened to her, he caught sight of her.

He had nothing to do for the day as the important lecture had been rescheduled so he was planning to head home that afternoon.

He had just walked out through the gate when he caught sight of Freya standing by the roadside.

She was wearing a red fur coat with her hair tied back into a ponytail.

Atlas didn't say anything and just walked up to stand beside her.

"Hey." She turned to him with a smile.

"Hm." Atlas nodded.

"Are you heading home?" She asked.

"Hm." He nodded. "Do you need anything from me?"

"Well….."

"What is it?" Atlas sighed before turning to her.

From the moment he spotted her there, he could tell she was waiting for him, and now she was trying to test his patience.

Seeing Atlas show signs of annoyance, Freya decided to speak up.

"I just received a new mission. Do you want to come with me?" She asked.

Atlas was a bit taken aback.

"You want me to go with you to deal with ghosts?"

"Well, technically it's just one ghost in this case, but yeah." She nodded.

Atlas stared at her with mixed expressions of exasperation and confusion before turning to leave.

"They're paying ten million, and I'll give you fifty per cent."

Atlas, who initially wanted to walk away, retracted his steps and turned to her, his expression now back to normal.

There were very few people in the world who would say no to money.

"So, where are you going?" He asked.

Freya smiled at him before turning to the road as she had spotted a taxi not long ago.

"You'll see."

She waved to stop the taxi which she and Atlas wasted no time boarding.

Nothing was said between the two for the first few minutes as Atlas quietly checked a few things on his phone while Freya just sat there and stared at him.

He could feel her gaze each time, but whenever he turned to her, he would see her looking ahead, as if she wasn't doing anything just now.

If he wasn't so sure of it he would be inclined to believe that nothing like that ever happened.

For a moment there he thought he could hear her saying, "You can't accuse me if you didn't catch me."

He could feel the corners of his mouth twitching just thinking about that.

Thinking about the disparity between what she usually showed people and her actual personality, Atlas suddenly thought of something.

"Hey, about Terry….."

"I didn't do it." Freya interrupted.

"Heh."

That was the reaction of every guilty person. The only difference was that even though she reacted like that, she didn't look guilty in the slightest.

"I haven't even said anything yet." Atlas sighed.

"You just have to know that I didn't do it." She affirmed, staring at him with puppy eyes like she was begging him to believe her.

Atlas felt his blood surge up that moment and he quickly covered her eyes with his hand.

"Fine, fine, you didn't do it." He admitted defeat and quickly turned away from her.

'Jeez, what's up with her eyes?'

The driver who witnessed everything from the rearview mirror couldn't help but chuckle a little.

It took about half an hour for the two to get to their location, which was a slightly run-down community.

Their precise destination was the only good-looking building in the community, a mansion surrounded by a long fence.

The front gate had two guards stationed in front of it.

Freya told the two that they were from the headquarters of the Nightshade division and upon hearing that, one of the guards quickly rushed inside to inform their boss.

A few minutes later, he returned and led the two inside.

As soon as he stepped through the gate, Atlas felt a chill run down his spine.

How did the temperature suddenly turn so chilly? They weren't in winter yet.

Noticing the change in his demeanour, Freya turned to him with a smile.

"You can feel it too, right?" She asked.

"If you're talking about how the weather suddenly became chilly then yes."

They were still walking when Freya placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Look ahead."

Atlas didn't think too much and did as she said thinking that she just wanted to show him something.

Well, she did want to show him something but it wasn't anything nice like he thought.

His eyes shrank back and he almost found himself stumbling back.

He wasn't able to see it before, but for some reason, he could now. The whole house was shrouded in the same dark aura that was covering the ghost he saw last time except this one was much thicker and was moving like it was alive.

"That's the reason why you suddenly feel cold." She said before infusing some of her spirit force into Atlas as her hand was still on his shoulder.

Atlas suddenly felt his body warming up and he couldn't help but turn to Freya in astonishment.

"What did you do?" He asked.

"I just gave you some spirit force, should keep you warm until we're done."

They had gotten to the entrance to the building now and the door seemed to have been left wide open.

Just as they were walking into the house, Freya pulled out a talisman and slapped it on the wall. No one noticed her doing anything.

Inside the house, every member of the family seemed to be present.

There was an old man who Freya assumed was the head of the family, old Mr. Elson, his son, Mr. Elson, was sitting opposite him with his wife beside him and then there was the boy lying on the ground, his head supported with a pillow.

The boy looked like a high schooler so he was probably sixteen or seventeen.

Freya didn't need to guess to find out how he ended up like that.

Atlas was already starting to get used to being able to see ghosts so he didn't appear to be startled.

Just beside the unconscious boy was a ghost who looked to be about the same age.

He had a stream of blood flowing down from the left side of his face and his eyes were red as he glared at the person lying on the ground.

"Another vengeful ghost?" Atlas leaned closer to Freya to whisper.

"Not really," Freya responded. "If he were really vengeful, they would all be dead by now."

That said, they would all still perish if the ghost continued to linger around to torture them.

He had to leave, but before doing anything, Freya still had to get the permission of the people involved.

At the moment, it didn't look like they approved of her as they all had scepticism written all over their faces.

"You're the sorcerers the Nightshade division sent?" Old Mr. Elson asked. He didn't bother hiding the disbelief and disappointment he was feeling now.

He had hired a few sorcerers before deciding to fork out a lot of money to seek out the help of the Nightshade division, and although not all of them were old men, none of them were as young as the two people standing here now.

The girl looked very much like a high school student and the boy like someone who had just entered his twenties.

How could these two people possibly be sorcerers? And even if they were, their skill level couldn't possibly be high enough to deal with their problem.

Was the Nightshade division joking with them?

Their doubts weren't exactly unfounded because most sorcerers around Freya's age were at a measly level one, and definitely wouldn't be able to deal with a ghost this strong.

"Yes," Freya answered the old man straightforwardly.

"So young." Mrs. Elson couldn't help but blurt out.

Compared to the two men she seemed to be more surprised and curious than disappointed.

Her eyes were red so anyone would be able to guess that she must have been crying.

At this point, she was just willing to grasp at anything that had the possibility of helping her son and hoped that it would work.

"Little girl, are you sure your master didn't come with you?" Mr. Elson asked with a contemptuous tone.

"My master couldn't possibly be here," Freya said as she blinked.

She looked as innocent and frail as a delicate flower.

The two men concluded that there was no way someone like that could possibly be a real sorcerer.

Atlas didn't look better either, they looked like two children messing around.

Old Mr. Elson was about to say something when the boy on the ground suddenly jerked up.

"I didn't do it!" He screamed. "I didn't do it! I didn't do it!"

He quickly slapped himself twice before kneeling on the ground ready to smash his head on the floor.

"Eric!" Mrs. Elson screamed in fright.

None of them could react in time.

However, before he could smash his head on the ground, Freya dashed forward at an unbelievable speed.

He grabbed the boy by his shoulder and quickly lifted him back up.

The three members of the family stared at her like they were looking at an alien, even Atlas, who was standing beside her just now, was left in a daze. But his gaze soon shifted to the ghost who had staggered a few steps away from Freya now.

"Another sorcerer seeking death!" The ghost growled.

"Oh?" Freya said with a calm expression. "But I don't think you've killed anyone before."

The expression on the faces of the Elson family members suddenly turned grim as they stared at Freya who appeared to be talking to the air.

"Shut up and get out of here!"

The ghost blasted a beam of negative energy at Freya in its fury but Freya had no problem dodging an attack that slow.

It zoomed past her and almost hit Atlas who was just quick enough to dodge at the last second.

"What the hell?"

Seeing his attack miss, the ghost charged forward and tried to punch Freya with a fist covered with negative energy.

Freya caught the fist before it could hit her, and before the ghost knew it, his arm was twisted, and he was suddenly pinned to the ground.

To everyone besides Atlas, it looked like Freya was wrestling with the wind.

While still holding the struggling ghost down, Freya turned to them with a smile.

"Do you want to see who's been disturbing you all this while?"

That was a question but she didn't wait for their response and immediately snapped her fingers.

Specks of blue dust immediately flew into their eyes and the next second, their eyes shrank back in shock.

Mrs. Elson was the most terrified out of all of them and it didn't take long before she crashed down from the couch.
