CHAPTER 4

c4: Vegeta, You Must Have a Peaceful Heart

"What? What's the shortcoming?" Vegeta hadn't reacted yet.

"I'm talking about the vacuum of space. We Saiyans can't survive in outer space without protection, right?" Lu Fan said calmly.

Lu Fan had confirmed this fact through careful research and had consulted with many other Saiyans.

It was a biological truth: Saiyans, like most organic lifeforms, cannot breathe in the vacuum of space and would die from exposure and asphyxiation.

This fact had also been emphasized several times in the Dragon Ball series. Lu Fan remembered watching those scenes vividly in his previous life.

When Son Goku fought Beerus after transforming into a Super Saiyan God, it appeared that their battle took place far above Earth, but they didn't enter the vacuum of space. They clashed high in the upper stratosphere—above the clouds and mountains, yet still within the range of breathable atmosphere, as seen in Dragon Ball Super.

At that altitude, the air was thin, but it wasn't absolute space.

"Hmph, what did I think you were going to say?" Vegeta snorted. "Saiyans can't survive in space. So what? There are countless races in the universe, and most of them can't either. It's not something to be overly concerned about."

"You said, what if someone destroys Planet Vegeta one day?" Lu Fan pressed.

"Don't be ridiculous. Who would dare destroy our home? We Saiyans are a warrior race!" Vegeta shook his young head with confidence, finding Lu Fan's speculation absurd. "If anything, we're the ones destroying other planets!"

"What if Frieza grows wary of us?" Lu Fan said with a faint smile.

"Are you joking?" Vegeta scoffed. "That lizard? He doesn't like us? Well, I never liked him either! One day, I'll crush him underfoot. The one who'll stand at the top of the universe... is me, Vegeta!"

"That's the spirit," Lu Fan nodded approvingly.

"Hmph, earlier you mentioned something about Super Saiyans. Can you explain it now?" Vegeta turned sharply to Lu Fan, intrigued.

"I came across something interesting in an old Saiyan archive," Lu Fan began, a smile playing on his lips. "There is a genetic component—the S-Cells. Saiyans who possess a high concentration of S-Cells and experience an intense emotional trigger can awaken as Super Saiyans."

Vegeta's eyes lit up with shock and excitement. "Seriously? That's the key? Tell me more!"

Lu Fan spoke plainly. "Yes. S-Cells are more common among kind-hearted Saiyans, which is why strong emotions—like rage or loss can unlock that transformation. It's rare, but it's not a myth."

He wasn't lying, Lu Fan himself had become a Super Saiyan. But that no longer concerned him.

Lu Fan's true focus had shifted.

His current ambition was far greater: to master the technique of Hakai, or Destruction, the ability of a God of Destruction.

Though his own "destruction energy" was currently minuscule, like a sesame seed, he believed in its potential.

He had pondered it deeply.

From the Dragon Ball Super manga, he recalled how Beerus once explained that destruction requires no hesitation or distraction.

It was pure and instinctual.

So Lu Fan trained himself to think of nothing but obliteration—no mercy, no doubt.

And by doing so, he had begun to condense the power of destruction within himself.

That was the real reason why Lu Fan often stood alone on Planet Vegeta, gazing at the sky in silence.

Destruction wasn't just a technique.

It was a divine discipline—something beyond mortal comprehension.

Lu Fan now possessed divine energy, so it was natural that the scouter's combat power reading had dropped in appearance.

Frieza's standard-issue scouters were unable to detect or measure godly ki—a concept introduced in Dragon Ball Super when Goku and Vegeta began their training under Whis. As Whis explained, divine ki is fundamentally different from mortal energy and cannot be sensed or registered by conventional means, including scouters.

Lu Fan was fully focused on the concept of destruction and was also contemplating whether he could further amplify both the scale and intensity of his Hakai-based power.

As for the Super Saiyan transformation or its variations, Lu Fan wasn't particularly enthusiastic.

No matter how powerful a Super Saiyan might be, it was clear from the events of Battle of Gods and the Universe Survival Saga that even advanced forms like Super Saiyan Blue were insufficient—Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7, had only used a fraction of his power while fending off Goku's most powerful attacks with ease.

Even if, in the distant future, Goku mastered Ultra Instinct—a state described by Whis as surpassing gods of destruction, he would still not be on equal footing with Beerus, whose full power remains untested in battle.

This reaffirmed for Lu Fan that unlimited destructive energy was the path he truly sought.

Of course, Lu Fan wasn't aiming to become an actual God of Destruction.

He was simply devoting himself to the understanding and mastery of the power of destruction.

He had no plans to inherit the title or role of a God of Destruction.

After all, as established in both the manga and anime, a God of Destruction and the Supreme Kai of their universe share a life-link should one perish, the other would also die.

Lu Fan feared that, in a future battle against a formidable enemy he couldn't defeat, someone might target the Kaioshin directly, resulting in Lu Fan's own erasure from existence.

The thought of vanishing just because the Kaioshin was eliminated? That was unacceptable.

"So how do we increase the S-Cells in our body?" Vegeta asked, intrigued.

"It's actually quite simple. You need to develop a peaceful heart," Lu Fan replied with a smile.

"What do you mean, a peaceful heart?" Vegeta blinked in confusion.

"Let me show you." Lu Fan said, instantly appearing in front of Vegeta with blinding speed.

Vegeta's pupils contracted sharply, and his expression darkened.

What kind of movement was that?

How was he so fast?

"Boom!"

Lu Fan drove a fist straight into Vegeta's chest.

"Guh…!"

Vegeta spat out a mouthful of bile immediately, his body overwhelmed by sudden pain.

Within seconds, Vegeta dropped to his knees, clutching his stomach in agony.

"Damn it! What's the big idea? Are you trying to ambush me again?!" Vegeta roared in fury, flaring his energy wildly.

He sprang up, ready to strike Lu Fan back with a vengeance.

"Hold it!" Lu Fan raised his hand casually, signaling him to stop.

"What the hell are you doing?" Vegeta snapped. "You better apologize right now! Or I'll find a random planet, train until I'm stronger, and come back to pound you into the ground!"

"You see?" Lu Fan said with a grin. "How could you possibly cultivate a peaceful heart with that kind of attitude?"

Vegeta paused, speechless.

"A peaceful heart means maintaining calmness in any situation," Lu Fan explained. "You have to learn to remain serene and not let your emotions control you. Unlike your hot-blooded temper tantrums."

Vegeta: "…"

"I get it now. You're trying to tell me not to fight back, not to get angry, just let you hit me?" Vegeta's eyes narrowed.

"That's basically it." Lu Fan nodded sincerely.

Vegeta felt like vomiting again, but this time out of frustration.

"What kind of ridiculous training method is that?! Does this Super Saiyan of yours even exist?!" Vegeta roared.

"Why not try it and see for yourself, Vegeta?" Lu Fan said, still smiling.

Vegeta mulled over the idea.

Yeah…

Why not?

Maybe, just maybe, he really could become a Super Saiyan.

"There's no proof for what you're saying. I want to see that ancient scroll or book you found," Vegeta demanded.

"I already destroyed it," Lu Fan replied calmly.

Vegeta: "…"

"If Frieza were to ever see something like that, it could cause all kinds of trouble," Lu Fan added with a smirk. "I've told you everything I know. Whether you believe it or not is up to you."

"Tch. Fine then. I'll try your method for one year. But if I don't become a Super Saiyan by then, you'd better be ready for the consequences," Vegeta snorted.

"Sure. Do your best," Lu Fan said, completely unfazed.

In truth, while Lu Fan insisted he had no interest in Super Saiyan transformations…

He wasn't completely indifferent.

After all, transforming could only enhance his power further.

And combining destruction with transformation? That might be unstoppable.

But he'd have to verify that possibility himself.

So Lu Fan had begun training his heart as well—to mature emotionally, remain composed, and boost the number of S-Cells within his body.
