Just as Su Bai had expected, the Pokémon viewed death beasts like bitter enemies. Despite their normally cute and gentle appearances, they showed nothing but fierce hatred toward the enemy in front of them.
Each and every Pokémon threw themselves into the battle against the Rotmice with unrestrained fury.
In terms of raw power, these beginner-stage Pokémon weren't necessarily stronger than a C-rank deathbeast. In fact, some were slightly weaker.
But Rotmice weren't exactly the strongest of the C-rank class—they only earned that rank due to their swarming behavior.
In a one-on-one fight, their true strength was laughable.
And more importantly, Pokémon had far more advanced and versatile move sets compared to the Rotmice, who relied solely on bites and claws.
Many Rotmice didn't even get the chance to reach melee range before being obliterated by ranged moves!
In mere moments, the Rotmice were dropping like wheat under a scythe!
The scene was even more overwhelming than when the death beasts had attacked Haicheng.
Back then, the number of Pokémon and the trainers' mastery over them were both lacking.
But now?
Both numbers and experience had dramatically improved—and Pokémon had far more potential for growth than death beasts ever could.
Many of the trainers who had defended the city before—and had since spent every waking hour training—were now showing incredible skill.
Su Bai even recognized one of them: a trainer who used Sandshrew.
Back during the siege, that guy could barely play a supporting role.
Now?
He was among the front-line fighters!
Sandshrew wasn't even a meter tall, but compared to Rotmice, it had a clear size advantage.
Its move—Rollout—sounded unimpressive, but its battlefield performance was far beyond expectations.
Sandshrew, much like a pangolin from Su Bai's original world, was covered in thick, tough scales.
Once it used Rollout, its body curled into a massive, armored sphere.
And it barreled through the Rotmice like a living steamroller!
Everywhere it passed, the foul-smelling rodents were flattened into twitching piles—bones shattered, limbs crushed.
High above the battlefield, Flying-types like Pidgey, Spearow, and Rowlet took to the skies.
From above, they dove down with deadly precision—each swoop drilling clean holes into the Rotmice below!
Facing off against such negative, foul beings, the Pokémon seemed even more enthusiastic than in normal battles.
Their blood was boiling. Their instincts were awakened.
As Su Bai admired the carnage with satisfaction, a loud, frustrated shout rang out behind him.
"Wang Tao, you jerk! Don't think I can't tell—you're hogging all the EXP!"
Su Bai turned around to see Liu Yunlan, clearly fuming.
Her Growlithe was prowling just outside the raging sandstorm, hesitant to enter.
It had tried charging in once, only to be smacked by a flying grain of sand—then promptly ran back out, whining.
That's when Su Bai realized… nearly all the Rotmice in front of their team had been sucked into the giant sandstorm.
He slapped his forehead.
Of course—there was no such thing as friendly-fire immunity in the real world.
Even if the sandstorm wasn't especially damaging, Pokémon weren't stupid.
Why take hits if you didn't have to?
Wang Tao grinned smugly, shrugging.
"Hey, not my fault! That's just how Hippopotas fights!"
"Besides, who says I'm hogging experience? Zhang Qun—get in there!"
Zhang Qun, standing nearby with a Gible and a Goomy, perked up.
"On it, boss!"
He patted Gible on the head.
The little pseudo-legendary wobbled into the sandstorm without hesitation.
Moments later, its oversized jaws opened wide—
BOOM!
A thick stream of Dragon Breath erupted forth!
The Rotmice inside the storm had no chance. They were bombarded mercilessly.
Despite pseudo-legendaries like Gible being slow to raise, Zhang Qun clearly hadn't slacked on training.
With Dragon Breath boasting a solid base power of 60, it was devastating against this C-rank swarm.
Even better, Zhang Qun and Wang Tao had clearly made a deal behind the scenes.
Gible didn't fire breath like a machine gun. After each blast, it would retreat into the sandstorm.
Any Rotmice trying to charge forward would be beaten back by the storm itself.
The cycle repeated.
What resulted was a one-sided massacre—a total wipeout by Dragon Breath bombardment!
The others could only hear repeated, thunderous booms from inside the storm.
The Rotmice were torn to pieces by a combo of biting sand and flaming breath—falling in droves.
"W-What?! That works?!"
Liu Yunlan stared in disbelief.
"Why can Gible move so easily inside the sandstorm? It's like it's not even affected!"
Su Bai chuckled, his eyes full of admiration.
"That's because Gible has the Sand Veil ability.
It's completely unaffected by sandstorms and its evasion rate increases while inside."
Honestly, even Su Bai was surprised by how well Wang Tao and Zhang Qun had coordinated.
First, Hippopotas used Sand Stream to alter the field.
Then Gible dove in, taking full advantage of the chaos with Dragon Breath.
For low-intelligence death beasts like these Rotmice, it was an unbeatable combo.
They could do nothing but get thrashed.
Another thing caught Su Bai off guard:
In the games, Sand Veil was said to raise evasion by 20%.
But in real life, it seemed to be something… more.
Even though Gible's skin was bluish and should have stood out against the sand, its figure became hazy and distorted once it entered the storm.
"Is this another 'Rule Effect'?
There's still so much about Pokémon I don't understand..."
Every discovery brought new wonder.
For Su Bai, a die-hard Pokémon lover, this was pure bliss.
Liu Yunlan was still grumbling, but her sister Liu Yunshuang smacked her lightly on the arm.
"You're still standing around whining?
Look over there—Murong Nan and the others are already moving in!"
"If you wait too long, you really won't even get the soup!"
Liu Yunlan turned—and her eyes widened.
Their "buddies," who'd been spectating near the sandstorm a moment ago, had all made their move!
"Machop, Throw it!"
The muscular Pokémon lifted a Rotmouse high overhead and hurled it at a Pawniard.
The cold-eyed, steel-clad Pokémon didn't even flinch.
Its blade-like arms flashed—
SHING!
The Rotmouse was sliced cleanly into three pieces.
The two Pokémon—who had once sparred against each other—were now in perfect sync.
Nearby, a Honedge disdainfully ignored team coordination and instead hacked wildly at its own target—slicing Rotmice apart with merciless efficiency.
As for Murong Nan, she was calmly beckoning to her Pokémon: Psyduck.
The little duck was clutching its head, looking as dazed as ever.
A Rotmouse lunged at it—
But before it could land, an invisible force froze it in midair.
Psyduck stared blankly at the enemy… then opened its beak.
A stream of Water Gun blasted out—piercing the death beast clean through!
Meanwhile, Li Xiaoyu had summoned her Umbreon, who was guarding a pair of younger Eevee.
Ding Yue's Nidoran♀ was crouched behind the group, channeling energy for her Poison Sting.
Despite the Rotmice being Poison-type too, Nidoran's venom clearly had the edge—its needle strikes sank deep into the enemy's flesh.
"Waaah—wait for me!"
Liu Yunlan shouted, panic setting in.
She grabbed her Growlithe and sprinted toward the battlefield.
Any later, and her sister might've been right—there wouldn't even be scraps left!
