Lucy got on the roof, her eyes darted around, and she finally found the person that was attacking—a young man with a bow in his hand.
The man looked at her as she stood there. He pulled out a bow and strung it, and without a moment of hesitation, he fired.
Whooosh
The arrow shot through the air, but Lucy caught it. She snapped it in two and looked at the man with a gold stare.
"You attacked my master. Your death will not be a pleasant one," she said.
The man frowned when he saw her catch the arrow easily. He clicked his tongue and ran away, rushing through the alley as fast as he could.
He made several turns and corners, and then he looked back and around, making sure that she wasn't there.
When he was certain, he hunched over, hands on his knees. He took heavy and deep breaths.
"This plan better work," he muttered under his breath.
Suddenly, he felt a cold bloodlust. He looked up and saw two glowing red eyes. Lucy found him extremely easily.
"How, how did you—?" He tried to speak, but before he could finish the sentence, a dagger came flying at a crazy speed and stabbed through his shoulder.
"Arghhhhhh!" he cried in pain. He tried to pull out the dagger, but it went deeper the more he tried. His groan of pain got louder. He collapsed to his knee.
"Arghhh, come out already!" he yelled, and then suddenly from the rooftops, six figures leaped out, coming down with weapons in their arms, ready to take down Lucy all at once.
A smile had already started forming on the man's face as he saw his people coming. It was like his saviors had come and he was free.
But when he looked at Lucy and saw the sadistic smile that lingered on her face, he knew something was wrong—terribly wrong.
"Blood art, Blood String Net," she muttered, pronouncing every word clearly. There was a shine in the dark, and what followed after that was a rain of blood and cleanly sliced chunks of limb and flesh.
The man watched in horror as the blood fell. His eyes trembled, body shaking, mind frozen. He looked at Lucy, and there was the smile still on her face.
"M...monster," he managed to speak. Her eyes glowed more, she tilted her head to the side, her smile got wider.
"Bingo," she said.
[....]
Zane waited for Lucy to return, and after a few more minutes, she finally made it back. There was no blood on her, but he could smell it. He knew for certain she had gone overboard.
But she did it for him. He wasn't going to complain when she did something for him. He smiled at her—a genuine smile.
"Good work, Lucy," he said, and his words made her face light up. She looked like a puppy that had just been praised.
"This city isn't safe for us anymore, and I'm not interested in any more battles right now, so let's leave," Zane said, and started walking.
This night had already been long, but every night had to come to an end, and that end was now coming. The warm glow of the sun over the horizon reached, and immediately Zane was irritated.
As Zane felt some of the rays touch him, he realized something—he had not given a ring to Grey.
He looked at Lucy very quickly.
"Lucy, do you have a second ring?" he asked. She also realized the situation after Zane asked. She shook her head quickly.
"Fuck," Zane cursed. He looked around for a solution, and without a moment to waste, he grabbed Grey and pulled him into a random house, and Lucy followed in.
The moment they entered the house, the residents woke up. The man of the house—a six-foot-tall man—rushed out, enraged and hissed at the intruders.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE?!" he roared and charged at them like a wild bull. Lucy raised her leg and sent a kick right into the head of the man.
Bam
The man was knocked out. His body flew to the side and slammed into the wall, unconscious.
The wife and her young daughter and son stood at the entrance, watching in fear.
"We aren't here to hurt you, please," Zane spoke. "If you stay quiet, we will be out soon and nothing will happen. Understood?" he asked. They nodded in fear.
Since he was done with that, he could finally focus on Grey.
"We don't have an extra night ring for you," Zane said, showing him the ring on his finger.
"What's that?" Grey asked.
"Something you need if you'll survive," Lucy said.
"You feel it, right? The irritation from just knowing the sun is near, right? That's because if we get under the sun, we will be roasted alive, burnt to ashes, and die," Zane said.
"These rings store darkness, and with it we are able to walk under the sun and nothing happens," Lucy stated.
Grey understood what they said. He could feel how much he didn't want to be under the sun, so it checked out. The issue now was how would he get a ring that would allow him to go under the sun.
"Is there a way to get this ring?" Grey asked.
"Not right now. No one can make it now," Lucy said.
"Yeah, if we can gather information on vampires later, we might be able to craft it—but not right now," Zane said.
"So what do we do now?" Grey asked.
And that question alone made him fall into thought. He started walking up and down as he tried to think.
While he was not looking, Grey looked at the small sunlight coming through the window, and he stretched a finger into it slowly—and nothing happened.
He felt irritated being under the sun, but nothing happened to him. So he put his full hand in, and still, nothing happened.
"Uhm, Master?" he called Zane.
