Morning broke with a reluctant light.

Lisbon's sky still wore its pale gray shawl, but there was a warmth under it today—just enough to hint that winter was truly fading. Jota noticed it when his feet first touched the cold dormitory floor. A little less bite in the air. A little more promise.

He moved quietly, careful not to wake Bruno.

He had a strange feeling in his stomach. Not nerves. Not hunger. Something between the two—like the beginning of something important.
