Chapter 83: The Ex-Girlfriend and the Current Girlfriend

[Chapter 83: The Ex-Girlfriend and the Current Girlfriend]

"The East Coast-West Coast hip hop feud has been unstoppable since Tupac's demise, unless Wallace on the other side also falls! This is bound to happen sooner or later. Many, including me, are quite eager to see Suge implicated. You get it, right?"

Charlie hurriedly dressed in his suit, smiling gently to comfort Vera.

He grabbed a box of pills brought by the waiter on the table and tossed it to her.

Yesterday, Charlie and Vera had spent much of the day having fun and even checked out the hotel's exclusive entertainment venue.

They both had been full of energy and got intimate until late at night.

Caught up in their intimacy, they forgot to take precautions, so Charlie intended for Vera to take some medicine as a remedy.

At the same time, he said, "Hurry and change clothes, put on the dress you bought yesterday. We need to head to Henderson Resort for the charity event before noon."

Vera believed Charlie's words and no longer worried about whether her boyfriend was a sinister villain, though she hesitated a bit holding the pills.

Charlie buttoned up his shirt and noticed her hesitation. He walked over, embraced Vera gently, and smiled warmly as if chatting casually. "Sorry, I should have considered your health; taking medicine isn't ideal. I promise this won't happen again. You wouldn't want us having a kid during the busiest times in our careers, right?"

Vera gave Charlie a light kiss. "Of course not. I just suddenly remembered some Pentecostal prayer events from my childhood. Seeing you so busy with work lately, I've also stepped up and contacted acting schools."

"Oh, really? That's great. You're going to be an excellent actress!" Charlie encouraged her enthusiastically.

Though he seemed calm on the surface, his eyes often lingered on the pills in Vera's hand.

Finally, seeing her take the medicine, Charlie's smile grew even brighter.

The bastard breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.

He realized he had been too paranoid, always thinking the darkest thoughts about people. It seemed Vera hadn't been completely corrupted by Hollywood yet.

If it were Alicia, she would surely find a chance to claim half his fortune and might even drag it out forever.

Fortunately, Vera hadn't seen the hateful side of her boyfriend. If she knew Charlie's inner thoughts, she might be so mad she'd want to beat him senseless.

I'm your girlfriend, yet you poisonously suspect the purity of my heart over something like this?

How terrible, how dark-hearted must a person be to have such a nasty nature?

Dressed sharply, the two set out together.

...

In the hotel lobby, they ran into Harvey and George Clooney.

After exchanging greetings, Harvey grinned oddly and eyed Charlie with a strange look. "Did you see the news? I feel sorry for Suge. He must regret messing with you, asshole."

Charlie rolled his eyes and retorted angrily, "Don't use your twisted mind to poisonously suspect me. That incident has nothing to do with me; someone else must have pushed him gently."

Harvey shook his head, smirking, treating Charlie's defense as nonsense.

They took a Rolls-Royce rented from the hotel, driving southeast.

...

Henderson City near Las Vegas housed the Destin Resort, an upscale mountain-style holiday home.

After about twenty minutes of driving, they arrived at a large outdoor venue rented for the event. The parking lot was already packed with various business cars.

Attendees at the charity event were dressed to the nines: men in suits, women in colorful dresses.

Everyone showed their invitations and then took electric carts through winding tree-lined roads to a lakeside lawn.

The clean grass was scattered with tables, chairs, shade tents, and flower baskets.

Simple desserts and stacked wine glasses were arranged on the tables.

"Hi, Mr. Quinn, good afternoon!"

"Hello, Mrs. Wayne!"

Harvey often took the initiative to greet guests, looking very polite, lacking any domineering aura of a boss.

Charlie held Vera's waist, looking around comfortably and quietly chuckled twice.

Immediately, Harvey glared at him.

One had to say, Harvey knew Charlie's bad personality well, or maybe it was because they were the same kind of people.

"I'm just being polite, Charlie. Don't mock me," Harvey said.

"Am I?" Charlie looked innocent.

Harvey was speechless. Luckily, there were city hall officials, council members, and Hollywood colleagues present.

He grabbed the balding director Cody Cameron. "Hey, you came too?" Harvey looked down, reestablishing his bossy presence with a few stern words.

Charlie shrugged helplessly at Harvey's childish behavior.

Seeing their odd interaction, George and Vera could only be baffled.

...

A familiar voice called from behind; Charlie glanced and saw Rachel talking with two others.

Before he could wave hello, Harvey pointed to a small group across the lawn. "Mr. Kerry is over there. Let me introduce you."

Charlie nodded eagerly. "Alright, I can't wait. With Suge's news fresh, we're well-prepared. Mr. Kerry will be glad we donated."

He whispered to Vera, "Sorry honey, I've got to go. Feel free to explore."

After Vera replied, Charlie and Harvey strode toward their goal side by side.

George wanted to say something when a man waved from afar. Happily, George waved back, "Ms. Farmiga, I have to leave too. Mr. Gustave wants to see me."

"Okay!" Vera consented reluctantly.

...

Everyone left. Vera stood alone, just 23, feeling a bit out of place at such a gathering.

She went to the shade tent, picked up a glass of champagne, and gazed at Charlie.

Seeing her boyfriend chatting avidly with middle-aged Mr. Kerry, admiration flashed in her eyes.

Charlie always approached everything with a positive spirit. His new business plan looked like it might succeed.

'He's younger than me. I'm so glad to have such a partner.'

...

Just then, Rachel, who had also noticed Vera, walked over alone after talking with her friends.

She didn't know Vera was starstruck; otherwise, she would have indignantly said, "You're celebrating too soon!"

"Hello, ma'am?" Vera turned to look, curious about the elegant lady in a black dress before her.

Rachel scrutinized Vera with an even more curious gaze. After a few seconds, she smirked slightly and extended her delicate hand.

"Hi, I'm Rachel Weisz, a British actress."
