Chapter 116: Slap

[Chapter 116: Slap]

At dawn, the first warm rays of sunlight filtered through the deep red curtains, casting a glow into the luxury suite of the Hilton Hotel. The room was a mess, clothes scattered all over the floor.

Charlie rubbed his aching lower back and abruptly opened his eyes on the soft bed. He glanced indifferently at the woman lying on his chest and pushed her away roughly. He got out of bed, his feet landing on the carpet, and made his way to the bench at the foot of the bed, casually grabbing a pair of shorts to put on.

He heard some noises coming from the living room outside the door but paid no mind. Charlie went over to the table near the balcony and rummaged through Rachel's purse. Then he checked the window area, looking around thoroughly. Unsurprisingly, he found nothing else.

He didn't seem relieved though. Charlie walked over to the wardrobe, pulled out a bag, took out a bottle of pills, and threw it onto the bed where it landed on Rachel's chest.

"Quit pretending to sleep and take these. If I remember right, you are in your fertile period currently," he said.

Rachel's eyelashes fluttered as she opened her eyes. Instead of looking groggy from just waking up, she had a faint excited glow.

Charlie's cold, indifferent words didn't make her upset at all. She obediently nodded, "Okay, darling. You're so thoughtful to carry these pills with you. By the way, what were you looking for just now?"

Charlie picked up two bottles of water from the table, tossed one to Rachel, and took a big gulp from the other. He smiled, "I didn't finish the ones I got for Vera last time. Although I don't think you're dumb, it's just my nature to routinely check for recording devices or anything like that."

Rachel didn't get upset, or at least she didn't show it. She smiled brightly and nodded, "Thanks, I appreciate your compliment."

Charlie put on a white T-shirt and frowned, pointing his chin toward the door. "So, your goal is to be my accomplice, to take pleasure in seeing more people get hurt? Or are you planning to sacrifice yourself to ruin my little hobby and stop more victims?"

Rachel sat on the bed with a smile, straightening her cool posture gracefully. She slowly opened the bottle cap and took the pills leisurely.

Before she answered, Charlie had already turned and left the room.

...

In the living room, Vera sat on the purple cotton sofa, looking haggard. Hearing the noise, she looked up and stared intensely at Charlie. They sat side by side in silence for a few seconds.

Charlie stared at the TV and said, "You didn't rest at all last night. That's not good."

Vera's eyes reddened, "Charlie, don't you have something to say to me?"

Charlie pressed his lips and exhaled, "You saw it all, didn't you? Rachel told you too. I heard you two cursing at each other for half an hour."

"Don't mention that filthy bitch!" Vera snapped angrily, locking eyes with Charlie. "I want to hear it come out of your mouth."

At that moment, Rachel, wearing a white shirt, leaned on the doorframe, watching them with interest.

Charlie glanced at her. "Sorry, what she said is what I wanted to say. You should've figured it out long ago. No man would bring his ex-girlfriend to see his current one. I came here today to tell you that. Also, I'm going to recommend you sign with CAA. They'll find you film roles, and Corleone Studios will reserve a project for you."

"Slap!"

Vera angrily slapped Charlie. "Is this supposed to be compensation, or has this been a deal all along? Bastard!"

She stared at Charlie for several seconds more, then stormed off, almost running away.

...

"Heeheehee..."

Rachel smirked playfully, twisting her body as she walked over and sat next to Charlie, leaning against him with a mischievous grin.

Charlie rubbed his cheek and looked down, half laughing in disbelief. "Satisfied now?"

Rachel puffed out her lips in mock discontent and pinched Charlie gently. "How annoying, I just want to satisfy you. Don't you like this? I have already said that I want to be your devoted follower. You enjoy teasing women, so I'm here to help. I'm not a man; I wouldn't enjoy hurting women!

My happiness is all because you're happy. I just throw away my dignity to please you no matter what. You weren't even drunk last night. Tell me weren't you excited when Vera saw us fooling around?"

Charlie's expression twisted oddly; he shrugged silently. "Sounds pretty evil. It was thrilling at the time. But I like being in control; being pitied lowers my sense of achievement. Also, when did you figure out I wasn't drunk?"

Rachel blushed, bit her lip, and whispered seductively in Charlie's ear, "Hmph, you suspicious bastard. You just want to secretly catch me incriminating you. But when you reacted, I knew you weren't drunk at all! Men who are completely smashed usually don't have the heart for that."

Charlie's breath grew a bit rapid as he held Rachel's arm tighter. His eyes widened. "Usually don't? Who else do you have besides me?"

Rachel punched him playfully but half-seriously, "Bastard, do you really think I've become some sloppy whore? Do you think I'm shameless around others like this? Damn it, have you forgotten how long we've been together? You drunkenly came home after parties with some bosses many times when raising funds for Fifty Shades of Gray."

"Oh yeah! That was quite a time. We both worked hard for our careers!" Charlie sighed. "Sorry, darling, I misunderstood you again. I can't help it; that's just who I am. Since you want to obediently be my follower, be smarter from now on. Vera and I have been together for less than a week! Most of the time, we live apart. If I break up with her now, she won't be as devastated as you were.

And her family situation is much worse than yours, and her personality is more independent and strong."

Rachel looked a bit downcast. "Okay, sorry my prince, for disappointing you. Stop testing me. I really am not taking pleasure in the new victims."

Though she said that, the smug smile on her face was unmistakable. Clearly, she was at least partially happy about it.

"It's okay, darling. I'll help you find the next victim. How about Maggie? Should I invite her to hang out on set for a few days?"

Charlie frowned, as if questioning or talking to himself, "That's strange. Since you're not trying to be my accomplice to gain some sick revenge, nor planning to sacrifice yourself to stop my hobby, could it be you're daydreaming about grabbing my fortune or ruining my career to get back at me?

You should know, clinging to me won't help much. You'd better seduce my executive team instead."
