Chapter 142: The Busy Senior Assistant

[Chapter 142: The Busy Senior Assistant]

Rachel was fearless, lifting her head and offering her cheek, "Go ahead, slap me. I'll report you to the police. I know Charlie's good friend there. Let's see who ends up worse off, me or you."

Halle's raised hand froze mid-air, her face showing disbelief and intense anger.

Inside the CAA office, some people heard the commotion and peeked out to see what was happening.

Vernon also heard the noise and quickly came over. He had heard of and even witnessed some Hollywood star scandals before, but the intensity between these two was enough to cause quite a stir.

He widened his eyes and waved his hands, "God, what are you two doing? Don't you realize how much this could damage your acting careers? Damn it, stop right now!"

Rachel spread her hands and shrugged, "Sorry, I got too emotional. You know, Charlie and I broke up because this woman crawled into his bed first. I feel..."

Vernon shuddered. He was starting to regret signing this actress. She seemed unstable.

"Miss Weisz, please calm down!" Vernon spoke sternly, "You're both my clients, and I want you to settle these issues privately. I'm sure Charlie would be upset hearing all this!"

"Alright, sorry everyone," Rachel smiled, scanned the room, then shamelessly walked out.

Vernon exchanged glances with a few colleagues, shaking his head with a wry smile, then looked at Halle, "Okay, the issue's resolved. Luckily this happened at CAA. Berry, let's discuss your movie projects for next year."

...

In her office, Halle was still a bit upset and shy after the incident, her eyes slightly red.

Vernon sighed, "Are you okay?"

"How could I be?" Halle retorted bitterly, "That nasty bitch has got to be crazy. She must have been abused by Charlie! She's too scared to confront men, so she takes it out on me. We're both victims of power!"

Vernon secretly rolled his eyes, then advised, "Don't worry about her. The agents at the nearby offices hold high positions; they won't leak today's news to the media. You are a star, and your reputation matters. Charlie might get laughed at or talked about, but he doesn't care, nor will he punish you for it."

Halle relaxed and took a deep breath, then said fiercely, "Don't worry, I won't stoop to that shameless bitch's level."

Vernon nodded approvingly, "That's right. You're a mature star, your career is booming. No need to make a big scene with Rachel. Or maybe settle it privately in a fight."

Halle laughed and cheered up, talking with Vernon about business.

With her two hit movies, Halle had many film offers and hoped her CAA agent gave her good advice.

An hour later, Halle left satisfied with her assistant and bodyguard.

...

Vernon was tidying his desk, lost in thought.

A few minutes later, he decided it was best to inform Charlie about Peter Jackson and Rachel's recent behavior.

Just as he was about to call, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in!"

"Hey, man!" It was Patrick Whitesell, looking cheerful. He came in and grabbed a bottle of water.

Vernon greeted warmly, "Haha, look who it is -- the assistant to the Chairman of Lions Corleone Group, hello!"

Patrick smiled, "Don't joke, man. I'm starting to regret not sorting out my resignation earlier. Now Charlie made me senior assistant, promising I'll be chief HR officer, but I'd rather be involved in film production."

It was clear they got along well; otherwise, Patrick wouldn't tease like this.

Vernon grinned back, pointing out Patrick was showing off his perks in front of him.

"Good timing. A director named Peter Jackson wants to contact Charlie through Ms. Weisz," Vernon said after a few minutes, carefully omitting the earlier conflict between the two women.

This was Charlie's private business, better to tell Mord. Though Patrick likely heard it from other sources already.

Patrick nodded, "Okay, got it. We'll handle it!"

He showed no strong reaction; Charlie had talked with Peter Jackson long ago.

"How's that client Alicia doing? Charlie said the plan can start anytime," Patrick asked.

"She's doing well, steady monthly income. Charlie's company is stronger, giving her confidence. I feel she's grown after all the ups and downs," Vernon replied.

"Great!" Patrick nodded and pulled out some papers. "Here's the contract from that company. Give it to her. The whole project won't have any Lions Corleone marks except the distributor will be Mafia. Vernon, you know what to do."

"Of course!" Vernon answered immediately.

...

Patrick came and went quickly.

With the founding of Lions Corleone, Charlie had many tasks.

As Charlie's official senior assistant, Patrick's duties were very busy; he even had his own assistant.

In the parking garage downstairs, Patrick met his assistant, who had just arrived from elsewhere.

"Sir, here's the data and information about Weta Digital from the New Zealand consulting company."

In the car, Patrick briefly browsed the documents and nodded slightly, "Good. Once you organize it, send it to Gert Byrne. They'll take it from there."

"Yes, sir!" The assistant was professional, no questions, put away the documents, and took out a notebook. "President Locke from IP Company sent a message. They've agreed on an acquisition deal with Iron Crown Company -- no layoffs for a year and new copyright terms -- a full acquisition.

Also, Mr. Corleone's latest 'Space Story' novel publication rights will be handed over. We'll attend the signing ceremony as Mr. Corleone's agents at 2 PM."

"Good!" Patrick nodded. Actually, these tasks went beyond a senior assistant's duties at Lions Corleone Group.

But a startup didn't fuss over formalities. Plus, Patrick enjoyed it. He felt Charlie's ambitious business vision and liked being part of growing this venture.

The assistant continued, "Mr. Martin Richards inviteed you to a party the night after tomorrow."

At this, Patrick gave a helpless smile. He'd met Martin twice before. Since Lions Corleone's founding, Martin became more enthusiastic, eager to bring Chicago to the big screen.
