I barely had time to process Gregory Johnson's earth-shattering words when Imogen's shrill voice cut through my thoughts.

"She did it on purpose! She scared my horse!" Imogen clutched her belly dramatically as her friends rushed to her side. "Look what she's done! I'm pregnant!"

I stared at her, mind still reeling from Gregory's implication about my mother. Had he truly suggested that Mrs. Johnson—Evelyn—was my biological mother? Not Ivy?

But Imogen's performance demanded my immediate attention. She'd fallen softly onto the grass after I'd made Wind deliberately shift just enough to startle her horse. It was calculated payback for her taunts, but nothing that would actually harm her.

"You're fine, Imogen," I said coolly. "Your horse merely sidestepped. You weren't thrown."

"How dare you!" One of her friends pointed an accusatory finger at me. "She's carrying the Ricardo heir!"
