The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden glow over the bustling human village as Konata and Meiling strolled side by side. Their "date" was their destination, and Meiling, despite her initial hesitation, found herself intrigued by the shapeshifter's infectious energy. The dirt path crunched softly under their feet, and the air carried the faint scent of fresh bread from a nearby stall. Villagers milled about, their chatter a lively hum in the background.
Konata tilted her head toward Meiling, her green eyes sparkling with curiosity. "So, tell me more about you! I mean, you're a martial artist, right? Also What's it like guarding the Scarlet Devil Mansion?"
Meiling brushed a strand of her fiery red hair behind her ear. "It's… intense, sometimes. Remilia tries to be a good boss though, and her sister Flandre? Let's just say I've learned to expect the unexpected. But I love the challenge. Keeps my skills sharp." She glanced at Konata. "What about you? What's your deal, Miss Chimera?"
Konata grinned, kicking a pebble along the path. "Oh, I'm just your average shapeshifter, y'know? I can turn into pretty much anything I want. Plus, I'm a total nerd. Video games, anime, manga—the whole package. It's my jam."
Meiling look closer at Konata, intrigued. "Anything? Like… anything anything?"
"Yup!" Konata said with a playful wink. "Not just organic stuff, either. Watch this!"
She stopped walking, her form shifting as her body began to change. Her skin hardened, flesh morphing into sleek, gleaming metal. Her petite frame stretched and expanded, joints clicking into place as she transformed into the towering, iconic figure of Optimus Prime, red and blue plating glinting in the sunlight. The transformation was seamless, almost cinematic, and a few nearby villagers gasped, pausing to stare.
"I… am Optimus Prime!" Konata declared in the Autobot leader's deep, resonant voice. He flexed his mechanical arms, his movements surprisingly fluid for someone new to this form. "Whoa, this is wild! Being all metal and circuits feels… weirder than I expected. Even more weird than Ghostfreak felt somehow. And strong—man, I feel like getting into a fight with 3 enemies in a forest!"
Meiling's jaw dropped, her eyes wide as saucers. Konata, undeterred, grinned behind the faceplate and continued his demonstration. "Check this out!" With a series of mechanical whirs and clanks, he shifted again, collapsing into the form of Optimus Prime's truck mode. The ground vibrated slightly as his tires settled into the dirt. "Okay, this is even more strange a feeling, but awesome! There's this… rush, you know? Is this how Cybertronians feel every time they transform, or is it just a first-time thing?"
Meiling blinked, still processing the sight of the talking truck. "So… you can turn into robots, too? I've met those who could change forms before, but none like you."
Konata's form shifts, and in a fluid ripple, she reverted to her human self. She dusted off her clothes, looking up at Meiling. "Told ya, I can become anything! Well…" She paused, her expression turning thoughtful. "Almost anything."
Meiling tilted her head. "Almost?"
Konata's face scrunched up in concentration, as if wrestling with an invisible force. She clenched her fists, her body trembling slightly, then sighed and relaxed. "Yeah, figures. There's one thing I can't do. I can't become an omnipotent god. Y'know, all-powerful, all-knowing, that kinda stuff."
Meiling's eyes widened again. "Wait, what? You actually tried that?"
Konata nodded, scratching the back of her head. "Yup. That's my one limit it seems. No omnipotence for me. Guess the universe decided I'd be too much of a problem with that kind of power."
Meiling let out a relieved chuckle, her shoulders relaxing. "Honestly? That's… kind of reassuring. You already sound scary powerful as it is."
Konata's eyes lit up with a spark. She muttered under her breath, "Although… maybe I could try something nigh-omnipotent? Or nigh-omniscient? Ooh, or nigh-omnipresent? Actually… that gives an idea."
Meiling raised an eyebrow, catching the tail end of Konata's muttering. "Hm? What was that?"
Konata waved a hand dismissively, her grin returning. "Nothing, nothing! Just some big ideas for later. For now, let's focus on our date."
Meiling's cheeks flushed a faint pink, and she crossed her arms, looking away. "I still can't believe I let you talk me into this."
Konata's grin widened, and she nudged Meiling's arm. "Admit it, you think I'm awesome. Deep down, you find me endearing. And maaaaybe you're a little curious about how my powers could, y'know, spice things up? Maybe we could make it like a Hentai?"
Meiling's face turned crimson, and she delivered a swift smack to the back of Konata's head. "Don't push it!"
Konata laughed, rubbing her head but clearly unfazed. The two continued their walk, leaving the village behind as they crested a gentle hill. The landscape opened up before them, a sea of green grass swaying in the breeze, dotted with wildflowers. Konata stopped, her eyes lighting up. "This is it! The perfect spot."
She knelt down, brushing her fingers against the grass. With a faint ripple, the blades shimmered and wove together, transforming into a soft, checkered picnic blanket that spread across the ground. Meiling watched, curious, as Konata picked up a few small rocks nearby. In her hands, they warped like clay and reshaped, becoming a small pile of steaming dumplings, their savory aroma wafting into the air.
"Here!" Konata said, offering them to Meiling with a proud smile. "Hope you like dumplings."
Meiling took one, her expression softening. "Thanks. I… didn't know you could change other things, too."
Konata plopped down on the blanket, popping a dumpling into her mouth. "Oh, yeah! I can mess with pretty much any matter or energy, as long as it's close to me. It's like my shapeshifting, but for stuff outside my body. Cool, right?"
Meiling nodded, biting into a dumpling. The flavor was surprisingly perfect—warm, savory, with just the right hint of spice. "These are really good," she said, her voice genuine. The two sat in companionable silence for a moment, the sounds of the breeze and distant village creating a peaceful backdrop.
Konata leaned back on her hands, gazing at the sky. "So," she said, breaking the quiet, "how'd you end up working for Remilia Scarlet? Sounds like quite a story."
---
Meiling's story about how she came to serve Remilia Scarlet was nothing short of captivating—a whirlwind of loyalty, chance encounters, and battles that Konata would keep to herself, at least for now. As she listened, a playful thought flickered in her mind: 'I wish I'd nabbed Meiling as my servant before Remilia got to her… or Sakuya even.' The idea of having someone as fierce and dependable as Meiling or the maid working for her was a nice thought.
The date had drawn to a close under a sky now dusted with stars, the air cool and fragrant with the scent of blooming night flowers. Ever the gentlething, Konata had escorted Meiling back to the towering gates of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Before they parted, Konata, with a hopeful glint in her green eyes, had asked about the possibility of another date. Meiling's response was neither a yes nor a no—just enough to keep Konata's hopes alive. With a wave and a wink, Konata left the mansion behind, her mind already buzzing with ideas.
As she wandered through the quiet paths of Gensokyo, the moonlight casting long shadows across the grass, Konata's thoughts drifted back to her earlier conversation with Meiling about her shapeshifting limits. A spark of inspiration had ignited then, born from a hazy memory of an old anime she'd binged in her past life. Hellsing Ultimate, she recalled, and one character in particular: Schrödinger, the cat boy whose very existence was a living paradox. Could she pull it off? Would it count as crossing her "no omnipotence" boundary?
"Only one way to find out," Konata muttered, a mischievous smile spreading across her face.
She stopped in a clearing, the night air still and expectant. Closing her eyes, she focused, her form moving as it began to shift. Her blue hair lightened to a platinum blonde, her frame slimmed into a lithe, androgynous figure, and soft cat ears sprouted atop her head. A red armband materialized on her sleeve, and when she opened her eyes—now a striking pink—she was no longer just Konata. She was Schrödinger, the femboy cat boy from Hellsing Ultimate, a being whose existence was dependent on recognizing his own existence: everywhere and nowhere, all at once.
The sensation hit him like a tidal wave. "By Odin's beard!" He exclaimed, his voice tinged with a faint German accent. "I thought being a Cybertronian was weird, but this… this is indescribable!"
As Schrödinger, Konata felt her awareness expand, a dizzying rush of being simultaneously present and absent. It wasn't true omnipresence—he wasn't breaking his one apparent hard limit—but it was close. Nigh-omnipresent, he could sense the world around him and move though it in a way that looked like teleportation to an outsider. He could choose where to be, his existence flickering like a quantum mirage. A giggle escaped his lips. "Oh, I like this… very good."
His eyes fell on the red armband, its stark swastika glaring back at him. "Ugh, yeah, no," he muttered, wrinkling his nose. "That's not my vibe." With a touch on the band, he reshaped the armband, the symbol morphing into the bold, circled X of the X-Men. "Much better. Xavier would totally approve."
Konata closed his eyes again, letting his newfound senses stretch outward. He could feel Gensokyo in its entirety—the rustle of leaves in the Forest of Magic, the distant hum of the Human Village, the quiet pulse of the Hakurei Shrine. Then, with a gentle push, his awareness extended beyond the Great Hakurei Barrier. The Earth unfolded before him senses: sprawling cities, endless oceans, even the cold, desolate surface of the moon.
A grin spread across his face, as wicked as the Grinch's when he got the idea to steal Christmas. "Oh, hold on. I've got an idea."
In an instant, his form vanished in a blink, and he appeared on the moon's dusty surface, the stars blazing overhead in the vacuum of space. He stood behind a Lunarian, clad in elegant robes, oblivious to his presence. Konata leaned in close, "Bunny says what?!" He shouted, reaching out to ruffle the Lunarian's rabbit ears making them yelp, before vanishing in a blink.
He reappeared in Gensokyo, doubled over with laughter. "Oh, man! I can't wait to hear how that shakes up the Lunar Capital. Bet they won't believe her!"
Still chuckling, Konata tested his limits again. This time, he blinked into existence beside Yukari Yakumo, the enigmatic gap youkai, who was lounging in one of her mysterious voids, sipping tea. Before Yukari could react, Konata planted a quick kiss on her cheek and purred, "Personally, I love hags like you!" Then, with a cheeky wink, he vanished.
Yukari froze, her teacup still in her hand. Her cheeks flushed a faint red as she muttered, "Who… what just happened?"
Konata, back in the clearing, was practically cackling. "Priceless!" But his curiosity wasn't sated yet. He closed his eyes, pushing his senses further—beyond Gensokyo, beyond Earth, beyond the galaxy. His awareness brushed against something vast, something infinite: the Multiverse. Other realities shimmered into focus, each one a distinct thread in the cosmic tapestry. He sensed the Ecchi world of Highschool DxD, the hero filled Marvel Comics, the grim world of Worm, the explosive battles of Dragon Ball, the magical worlds from Fate and countless others.
"Incredible," he breathed, his eyes wide with wonder. "I can only feel so much at once, but it's… it's there." He paused. "I wonder if Schrödinger could do this in the original, or if this is just my essence improving his powers in some subconscious way? Either way, I'm not complaining."
The Multiverse lay before him, a playground of infinite possibilities. Konata's grin widened, his heart racing with excitement. There were so many worlds to explore, so many adventures to chase. And he couldn't wait to decide where he would go next.
"ennie… mennie… mighty… moe!"
