First Blood Contract

I'm sorry I couldn't upload for some time. I'm currently visiting my grandparents, so I don't really have the time and energy to upload chapters consistently. I will still try my best to upload chapters here and there but for this month, don't expect consistent uploads.

Also, I always liked stories where there are things like the main character getting transmigrated into an anime/manga/light novel/game and people from the real world play or watch it. Like, for example, there was this one story in Webnovel that I read where this dude transmigrated to Kuroko no Basketball as Gojo or something like that and he had to get popular and shi like that. Basically a character popularity system. Can you recommend me some stories like that?

Chapter 11: First Blood Contract

7:42 p.m. – White Tiger Job Centre, Contractor Lounge

Choi Sunjae stepped inside, a stuffed bear poking from his hoodie and a can of grape soda in hand.

He then sat sideways on one of the cheap leather couches, one leg slung over the armrest. In his lap sat a round, stitched-up stuffed animal with tiny button eyes: Bboong.

He stared at it, then at the dull ceiling.

"Bboong… Do you think they're going to send me after someone important?"

Bboong said some really eye-opening stuff.

Sunjae tilted his head. "Right. Low rep, first mission. Probably just some random punk."

A man who was sitting working on something on the table. He had a kind-looking face that made you automatically feel like he was the 'kind old neighbor' type of person. He had a suit on, and round-shaped glasses, and Sunjae could feel, that he was quite strong.

The man sighed. "We're really hiring children now?"

"I'm freelancing," Sunjae replied as toyed with the stuffed teddy bear. "Also, I'm pretty strong." I said with a smug smile.

The man raised an eyebrow but didn't argue. He slid a small manila folder across the desk.

"Your first contract. Test grade. Mid-tier retrieval order. Quiet, fast, and off-record."

Just as Sunaje was about to crack open the folder.

'Ding'

The system window popped up

[Target: Han Gil-Do][Affiliation: Former Yaksha Crew Enforcer][Location: Sinchon Industrial Backlots][Priority: B][Conditions: Retrieve quietly. No public disruption.][Reward: ₩1,200,000][Bonus: +Rep with White Tiger if undetected.][Penalty: Blacklisted from contractor system on failure.~]

Sunjae then opened the folder to check if the information was the same.

In the folder there was a black-and-white photo paperclipped to the sheet. A scarred man with heavy shoulders and eyes like broken glass. with the necessary information needed. Sunjae took notice of this

Sunjae nodded.

"Cool. Got any banana milk?"

The man stared and then smiled

"There's banana milk in the mini fridge just right down the corner."

As Sunjae was leaving, he remembered something. He hadn't asked the man his name yet.

"Hey, old man, what's your name?"

The man smiled and then replied,

"You can call me Manager Kim."

9:15 p.m. – Sinchon Industrial Backlots

The air reeked of rust, cheap fuel, and old rain. Half-lit construction lights threw fragmented shadows across abandoned forklifts and storage containers. Puddles reflected orange-red streaks of neon signage bleeding in from the city outskirts.

Sunjae walked through it all quietly, hands in pockets, Bboong bouncing gently with every step.

[SYSTEM UPDATE: CONTRACTOR MODE ENGAGED][Passive Buff Activated: Cold Efficiency—Instinct suppression during objectives.][Target Location: 70 meters ahead.][Bodyguards: 3 confirmed.][Suggested Approach: Non-lethal subdual. Recommended: Precision takedowns.]

He stopped beside a stacked crate and placed Bboong carefully on top.

"You're my moral compass," he whispered.

Then walked forward to the designated area.

9:20 p.m. – East Loading Dock

Three figures milled around the edge of the lot, half-watching their surroundings while drinking and arguing over some underground broadcasted fight. Two were men—both bulky, wired with twitching muscle enhancements. The third was a short-haired woman with a cigarette and brass knuckles already on.

Han Gil-Do wasn't far. He sat alone on a crate further back, loading something into a needle. His breath fogged slightly in the night air.

"Who the hell—"

One guard noticed Sunjae.

He didn't respond. Just walked closer, slow and relaxed.

"Lost, kid?"

No answer.

"Hey, are you deaf—?"

The first one stepped forward—and blinked.

Because Sunjae disappeared.

He of course didn't have any superpowers to go invisible. He simply went out of his vision.

[System Triggered: Flow State—Reaction Boost 30%, Vision Narrowed]

The man looked left as he heard a noise.

Too late.

Sunjae surged out of the shadow, grabbed his collar, and slammed his forehead into the man's nose—a loud, sickening crack.

The bodyguard stumbled.

He tried to lunge, but Sunjae stepped in, catching him off guard. He shoved his forearm under the bodyguard's extended elbow and twisted, using the man's own momentum to send him staggering.

He spun.

Like water slipping past a rock, Sunjae pivoted on one foot, his hoodie fluttering. He rotated low and used the spin to build torque in his legs.

He kneed him in the gut.

As he came full circle, Sunjae surged upward—bam—his knee drove into Gil-Do's abdomen with a crack of compressed air. The impact crushed breath from the man's lungs and bent him forward, reflexively clutching his stomach.

He then elbowed him in the neck.

Before the bodyguard could raise his guard, Sunjae's body twisted again. His elbow shot up like a piston into the side of the bodyguard's neck. A brutal, efficient strike that cut off motor coordination for a fraction of a second.

The man's limbs jerked, knees buckled. He dropped to one knee, choking on air. Sunjae then used his hand to chop the bodyguard's neck.

The man collapsed, unconscious, before he hit the floor.

[Subdual Confirmed: Bodyguard #1 – Brutal knockout]

"Jae's down!" The woman yelled, tossing her smoke and running forward. "I got this little bastard—!"

Sunjae ducked a swing. Her punch was wild, fueled by enhancement drugs, but messy. He sidestepped, grabbed her wrist, and swept her feet.

She hit the ground. Hard.

He kneed her ribs, then dropped his weight down with an arm bar. One pop. Two.

Snap.

She screamed—and blacked out when his palm clipped her jaw.

[Subdual Confirmed: Bodyguard #2 – Clean Disable]

The third bodyguard, smarter than the rest, ran for a bat behind the crates.

Sunjae darted forward before the weapon could be raised—closed the distance with a sudden burst of speed and slammed his heel into the man's ankle from the side.

Crunch.

The man screamed.

Sunjae punched his solar plexus.

He dropped.

[Subdual Confirmed: Bodyguard #3 – Quick finish]

[Optional Bonus Cleared: All guards neutralized in under 3 minutes.] |

Han Gil-Do stood alone now in the warehouse yard, three of his men groaning on the ground front of him—broken, twitching, disarmed. The scent of blood and oil hung in the air.

He flexed his knuckles slowly, posture loose but calculating. "You're not from any of the known crews." His eyes narrowed. "So, who the hell sent you? Black Snake? Juno's leftovers?"

Sunjae didn't respond. His gaze remained cold and unmoving. He took a step foward.

Gil-Do's teeth grinded together. "...Fine. You wanna play mute?"

He dropped into a low stance—Southern Chinese style Wing chun. A relatively niche martial art. All about its close-quarters combat, rapid-fire punches, and efficient techniques. It wasn't preety but it worked.

He lunged forward—clean footwork, a quick feint low at the knee meant to draw a reaction, then a sweeping elbow aimed at Sunjae's ribs.

Sunjae didn't dodge dramatically.

He just... leaned.

The elbow swiped through empty space. Gil-Do felt a chill run through him.

Before he could recover, Sunjae moved. A fluid pivot off his back heel—and a whip-crack roundhouse smashed into Gil-Do's side. Pain flared.

Gil-Do rolled with the blow, gritting his teeth, using the momentum to stagger up, blood trickling from his lip.

"You're fast. Real fast."

Sunjae still said nothing.

Gil-Do didn't like that. The silence was worse than taunts.

He approached again, this time slower, more calculated. A step in, then a sharp upward palm aimed for the chin—fast and brutal.

Sunjae caught the wrist cleanly.

Twisted.

The pop of strain in Gil-Do's shoulder made him bark out in pain before he was slammed into the ground.

Gil-Do tried to twist out, grit scraping his skin—but Sunjae was already atop him, knee pinning his shoulder blade, cutting off leverage.

"Get... off me!" Gil-Do spat, rage and panic mixing.

Sunjae vanished from his back in a blur—then reappeared behind him before Gil-Do could so much as blink.

An elbow crashed into the base of his neck.

Gil-Do staggered forward, gagging.

He spun with effort—eyes wide—and then he saw it.

A flicker of red.

Sunjae's eyes glowed faintly in the dim light—barely noticeable, but unmistakably unnatural.

Something primitive in Gil-Do recoiled.

Fear.

He hesitated.

And that was all Sunjae needed.

A spinning hook kick whipped across the side of Gil-Do's head. A crunch. The ground rushed up to meet him.

He wasn't unconscious—but his body refused to stand. His limbs twitched uselessly.

Gil-Do panted, trembling, blood smearing across his chin.

"Yo-your not from those gangs, w-who are you.." he whimpered.

Sunjae crouched in front of him

He pulled out a pair of black-zipcord restraints from his coat and clipped them around Gil-Do's wrists behind his back.

Click.

He then whacked Gil-Do's head with a punch.

"Yappatron"

Gil-Do didn't resist.

He couldn't.

He simply trembled, knees buckling beneath him as the restraints sealed shut.

Sunjae smacked him again, but this time with the intent to knock him out, which happened.

Then came the sound only Sunjae could hear:

[Target Apprehended]

[₩900,000 Deposited]

[+₩300,000 Bonus – Efficient Execution]

[Reputation +425]

[Trait Gained: Fear Inducement I – When overwhelming foes, they may hesitate before acting.

Sunjae picked up Bboong and brushed a speck of dust off its stitched nose.

"Sorry. Got a little ugly."

He tucked the bear into his hoodie.

Then, dragging Gil-Do—who now groaned with every bump on the concrete—he walked toward the distant hum of approaching extraction lights.
