Bound by Crimson Lies

CHPATER 27

Mike's eyes froze on the wall.

Blood… it had dripped down in streaks, dried in some places but still carried a fresh, metallic scent. The dark red letters shimmered in the dim light with a disturbing, wet gleam:

— "If you want your family… come back to where you were. You have 3 hours. Otherwise, there will be more blood than these words."

For a moment, his breath stopped.

Every ounce of rage, fear, and panic inside him blended into one. His fists clenched so tightly his palms nearly bled. Again… again he couldn't escape. Again someone was being targeted because of him.

The whole house went silent. It was as if the world had frozen. But in Mike's mind, there were a thousand voices; Emily's gaze, Zack's laughter, his mother's smile… all of them merging into a single echo:

"Because of you…"

His throat tightened. His pupils shrank. His hands dug into his hair, his head leaning back as he breathed almost like a growl.

— "No… no… this isn't my fault… IT'S NOT!"

But a voice inside whispered to him: "You're the carrier. Everything came with you."

Mike's heart was pounding so fast it felt like his chest would burst. His body trembled, his knees nearly gave out.

And just then, a shadow in the corner of the room moved.

— "You break this easily… what a disappointment."

That voice.

Deep, echoing, yet familiar… the demon's voice.

Mike spun around on reflex. The room was cloaked in darkness. From the shadow stepped a silhouette he knew all too well, with horns and chains. But this time, the chains were looser… and its eyes glowed brighter.

— "Do you really think you can save them? Gideon isn't playing with them. He's playing with you."

Mike clenched his teeth.

— "Shut your mouth!"

The demon laughed. Its laughter spread like an echo, rattling the glass faintly.

— "No… you need to hear this. They were your family, yes. But the moment you bore this curse… there was never a safe place left in their lives. Your existence… is their death sentence."

Mike's eyes flared for an instant. His veins stood out, his breathing shifted. Blackened veins crept over the backs of his hands. But he forced himself to hold back.

— "No… not this time. This time I'll protect them!"

The demon stepped closer. Its chains scraped against the floor, sparking as they dragged. As it drew nearer, its voice grew softer, more suffocating:

— "Protect them? Or will you be the one who kills them yourself?"

Mike's heart nearly stopped. At those words, a brief flash appeared in his mind—a vision of his own hands drenched in blood, a lifeless silhouette on the floor… he couldn't even tell if it was his mother, or Emily.

He dropped to his knees.

— "No… no! It won't be me!"

One of the demon's chains slithered, wrapping around Mike's neck.

— "You reject me. You silence me. But that only delays the inevitable. When they take them… this power will consume you completely. And then…"

The chain suddenly loosened. The demon pulled back.

— "You'll have no choice but to be mine."

With a blink, it vanished.

The room returned to normal. Mike was drenched in sweat, his eyes still wide with terror. Panting, he stood up and looked into the mirror. For a fleeting second, he saw his own eyes still reflecting the demon's gaze.

And in that moment, he made his decision.

No plans. No preparation.

He would find Gideon.

And either win… or die.

He flung the door open so hard the hinges rattled. The wind carried the scent of blood outward. Mike took a deep breath, his body already shifting on instinct. Blue flames flickered at his fingertips.

This time, he wouldn't run.
