The Truth in the Veins

I stared at the crimson liquid flowing from my arm into the collection bag, each drop potentially crucial for Fabian's survival. The stark white hospital room blurred around me as flashbacks of the attack kept replaying in my mind—Fabian's small body convulsing, his skin turning an ashen gray as the silver worked through his system.

"You're doing great, Mr. Vance." The nurse adjusted the needle slightly. "This will make a huge difference."

I merely nodded, unable to form words. My wolf was still in a frenzy, desperate to protect the boy who'd somehow become so important to me in such a short time. The animal part of me wanted to hunt down whoever had done this, to tear them apart with my bare hands. But the human part knew I needed to be here, giving the one thing that might save him.

"It's really remarkable you're donating," the nurse continued, checking the flow. "Most people wouldn't step up for a child they aren't related to."

I looked up sharply. "What?"
