Seraphina's threats still rang in my ears as I changed back into my clothes. My hands trembled with suppressed rage as I zipped up my jeans and pulled on my blouse. The door to the fitting room felt like the only barrier between me and a full emotional breakdown.

"Miss West?" Diana's soft knock made me jump. "Are you alright in there?"

I took a deep breath, composing myself. "I'm fine. Just finishing up."

When I stepped out, Diana's sympathetic expression told me she'd witnessed at least some of the exchange. She held up the sapphire gown I'd selected earlier.

"I still have this one on hold for you," she said quietly. "It's even more stunning than the blue one, if you ask me."

I managed a small smile. "Thank you. I'd still like to—"

"What seems to be the problem here?" Seraphina's voice cut through the boutique like a blade. She was at the front counter, Annelise hovering beside her with a smug expression.
