The streetlights blurred past as we drove through the upscale neighborhood toward the Valois mansion. I couldn't stop thinking about what Adrian had just revealed to me. Leo wasn't his biological son. The powerful Alpha had taken in his troubled sister's baby and raised him as his own.
"Are you alright?" Adrian's deep voice broke through my thoughts. "You've been quiet."
I glanced at Leo, who was fast asleep against my shoulder, his small chest rising and falling steadily.
"I'm just processing everything," I admitted. "It can't have been easy, taking on a child that wasn't yours while grieving your wife."
Adrian's eyes met mine in the rearview mirror. "It wasn't. But it was never a question of whether I would take him. He was innocent in all of it."
The tenderness in his voice made my heart squeeze. This was a side of Adrian Valois few people ever saw—the man beneath the intimidating Alpha exterior.
