"Morning, Megumin. Breakfast?"
"Yep! Lots of folks have been offering tribute to Komekko lately, so I ate my fill."
"…You've given up your dignity."
Whenever her family ran low on money, Megumin would parade Komekko around the village and collect "tributes."
Recently, her little sister fell ill, and the adults weren't home—so she borrowed money from Yunyun. Yunyun thought it was extortion.
Even worse—she used the money to take Komekko to beg at the pharmacy. And it actually worked.
Now she was fired up to brew a superior potion in class.
"Zunzun, help me?"
"Sure."
The teacher initially refused, but Zunzun dramatically said, "With the top two Crimson Demon geniuses working together, we might create a god-tier potion that raises the dead!"
The teacher relented.
As they started, Yunyun looked at the bubbling mixture. "Um, it's breathing fire…"
"Totally normal," Zunzun said, flipping through the formula. "Next, add Farfetch'd's—"
"Stop right there!" Yunyun grabbed his arm.
"What's your deal?"
"You're using that adorable duck?!"
Zunzun sighed. "It's just the onion, not its organs. We don't have to kill it."
"…Oh, that's okay then."
Yunyun relaxed.
But then—
Zunzun muttered, "Didn't expect Megumin to spare it. After all, it's a rare monster. Worth a ton of XP. Delicious, too."
"…Wait, XP?"
Before she could protest—
Crack!
Megumin snapped its neck.
"Level up~!" she grinned, holding up her adventurer card.
Yunyun: "IDIOTTTTTT—!!"
The title [Duck Killer] was born.
After school, they gifted the potion to Nerimaki. She refused until Zunzun vouched for its efficacy. Megumin, still grumpy, snatched back Yunyun's money.
That evening, Megumin brought Komekko and a now-onion-less duck to Zunzun's house.
She asked him to cook it.
Zunzun, already treated like a household chef, suggested sharing the dish to appease classmates angry about the duck-killing.
She hesitated—but Komekko persuaded her.
The next day, he brought braised duck to school. Everyone loved it. Even the teacher gave him a skill point potion—then passed it to Megumin under her glare.
Everyone was happy.
Except Yunyun.
She looked at the duck dish and cried, "The duck was so cute… how can I eat it…"
...Oops.
That's like eating ribs in front of a vegan.
Megumin made it worse by showing off a duck leg while nibbling gleefully.
Cruel.
Evil.
...But why was it oddly satisfying?
Only when Megumin returned Yunyun's money did she smile. Then—she forced her to eat a duck wing.
"Tastes good when a friend feeds you, right?"
"…Friend? Yeah. Delicious…"
Tears streamed down her face.
Mission accomplished.
