Chapter 18: The Grilled Chicken Day

Max opened the door to his restaurant at 4:30 AM. The chilly dawn breeze brushed against his face as he smelled the damp street. It wasn't too early for him; he was used to it.

But today, he felt a special excitement.

> "I ordered a hundred whole chickens for today. People have been asking a lot... Let me see, one chicken costs me $6, marinade about $1, so total cost is $7. I'm selling the pound for $5, and each chicken is about 4 pounds… So that's $20 per chicken. Expensive? Maybe. But the taste is worth it."

He smiled to himself as he walked in and switched on the lights. Moments later, his team started arriving.

"Good morning, Chef!"

"Ready for the big day?"

"The chicken's on its way, should be here in half an hour."

The team began preparing the charcoal, lighting the ovens, and arranging the tables. The marinade Max had prepared yesterday was used to soak the first batch of chicken, and the smell started to fill the place.

By 7:00 AM, the street was unusually active.

The crowd had started.

A long line formed outside the restaurant even before the official opening.

One of the customers approached the door with a smile:

– "Are you the guys with the new grilled chicken? I could smell it from down the street!"

Max laughed and replied:

– "Hold on a bit, the first batch is just coming off the fire."

And once the doors opened, the first wave rushed in.

Orders poured in.

– "One whole grilled chicken!"

– "Half chicken with bread and salad!"

– "Wow, that smoky aroma with the marinade is just amazing!"

The line didn't get shorter. On the contrary, it kept growing. People began filming, and some started sharing photos of the food on social media, attracting even more customers.

By 12 noon, all the grilled chicken had sold out.

Max stood in the middle of the kitchen, staring at the empty racks in disbelief.

> "Did we actually finish all the chicken? A hundred birds sold? No way!"

> His assistant replied with an exhausted smile:

> – "Yes, Chef, not a single one left."

The customers who had just arrived were a bit disappointed, but after trying other sandwiches – especially the grilled cheese and soup – they too started smiling.

– "No worries about the chicken, everything here tastes amazing."

– "Just give me anything from today's menu, clearly everything is done with care."

End of the Day

Max sat on the wooden chair in the kitchen after locking the last door himself. He wiped his sweat and took a deep breath.

> "Let me do a quick calculation…"

100 chickens × $20 = $2,000 in sales

100 chickens × $7 = $700 in costs

Profit = $1,300 from chicken alone

Not to mention the other orders, which weren't few.

He calculated in his head:

> "The other sales brought in around $850, with costs around $300… that's another $550."

Total profit for the day = $1,300 + $550 = $1,850

Suddenly, a familiar transparent screen appeared before Max's eyes.

Max smiled as he looked at the hidden screen that only he could see.

> "Now *this* is work that's worth the effort. And tomorrow... we're ordering 200 chickens instead of 100."

The first official day as a "Grilled Chicken Restaurant" had ended, but for him, this was just the beginning.
