Fighting Gildarts

It was finally the day of Nicolas's S-class exam.

Most people in the guild were now in the east forest to witness the fight.

Gildarts and Nicolas were standing apart from each other already ready to fight.

Seeing that the both of them were ready, Makarov gave the starting signal by yelling loudly.

Hearing the starting signal, Nicolas immediately rushed towards Gildarts.

Nicolas just used a rush of attacks without using magic first since he wanted to test his close combat skills against Gildarts's fighting skills.

Gildarts immediately saw through Nicolas's thoughts so he just dodged Nicolas's attacks effortlessly. But even so, Nicolas's flurry of attack didn't stop.

After a minute, Gildarts finally threw a punch on Nicolas's face blowing him away but thankfully, he was able to land on his feet.

"Hey kid, this is to test your magic so you better start using it soon" Gildarts said while smirking and taunting Nicolas with his hand.

"Alright then." Nicolas said as magic power covered his entire body. He then launched a Diamond dragon's roar at full power but Gildarts easily crushed it using his magic.

Nicolas then started doing finger guns with both hands. High speed diamond bullets then shot out of his fingertips but Gildarts still destroyed them by blocking with his hand coated with crush magic.

Nicolas then decided to circle around Gildarts while shooting him with a flurry of diamond bullets. And although Gildarts was able dodge and block them with ease, he finally got annoyed by it after a while so he finally rushed towards Nicolas.

Seeing Gildarts approaching him, Nicolas immediately turned his entire body to diamond and launched a rushing tackle that he conveniently named "Diamond dragon's brilliant punk."

Gildarts just stretched his hand ahead and used crush magic to stop Nicolas's rush and Nicolas was once again blown away but this time, the force was much stronger so he crashed onto several trees before finally landing on his knees.

Nicolas then stood up and patted his clothes to remove the debris from his clothes and took a fighting position once again.

Seeing that Nicolas was still raring to go, Gildarts smirked and began to taunt once again

"What's wrong kid? You'll never land a hit on me at this rate."

'Tch. As expected, he's strong. No need to hold back then. I can't probably beat him now so might as well test my attacks on a live target.' Nicolas thought while smirking.

Nicolas then opened his pocket dimension and summoned seawater that he previously collected when he did requests.

A gigantic ball of water then formed in the air. Nicolas then spread his wings and flew into the water ball.

Gildarts was still on the ground wondering what Nicolas would do.

Nicolas then launched a water blade towards Gildarts.

Gildarts immediately noticed that the water blade had more magic power in it than it should so crushed it using more magic power than normal.

As he crushed the attack, he saw that there were diamond particles inside the water.

'Not bad kid. Using tiny diamonds to augment the power of the attack.' Gildarts thought to himself while smiling.

Nicolas then launched countless water blades on Gildarts to not give him time to think.

'So what are you going to do? I stored a lake worth of seawater in my pocket dimension and I can regenerate my magic power by drinking it too so I can maintain my attacks for a long time.

And I'm high up in the air so you're in a passive position.

Let's see whose magic power run out first.' Nicolas thought to himself while smirking.

'Tch, what a devious brat. Not giving me any time to take my breath.' Gildarts thought as he blocked and dodged Nicolas's attack for a bit.

Seeing Nicolas's smirk from afar, Gildarts decided to teach him a lesson and coated his whole body in crush magic strong enough to crush all of Nicolas's attack and squatted on the ground, preparing to jump towards Nicolas using magic power to strengthen himself.

He then jumped above the water ball completely nullifying all of Nicolas's attacks that were thrown at him and shouted "Don't underestimate S-rank mages, kid!!" while smiling.

"All Crush!!!"

The water ball then turned into square pieces and blew up, raining on the ground. And Nicolas was once again blown away to the ground leaving a little crater as he landed on his back.

Nicolas who was now on the ground was assessing his own injuries.

'No bones broken, I can still move but it hurts like hell.' Nicolas thought while trying to stand up.

'This kid is a total monster. I was a bit serious with that attack, you know.' Gildarts thought, slightly surprised seeing Nicolas still conscious.

After Nicolas stood up, he jumped out of the crater to put distance between him and Gildarts.

He took a crouching start position and turned his entire body to diamond. He then redeployed his wing and began to coat the entirety of his magic power on his body, forming a blue dragon head made of pure magic power and spoke loudly for Gildarts to hear.

"This is my final attack. If I can't beat you with this, then I lose."

"I accept your challenge, Kid." Gildarts said while smiling widely as he radiated his magic power too.

The peanut gallery watching then began to cheer loudly seeing the passionate battle between the two men.

As Nicolas and Gildarts were readying themselves for the final clash, Makarov suddenly appeared and told the both of them to stop.

"You brats, this is an exam not a fight to the death." Makarov said angrily.

"Hahahaha! Sorry about that, I got caught up too much in the fight." Gildarts said while scratching his head.

'Oh well, seeing the burst of magic power that Gildarts showed at the end, I probably would've been able to injure him but still not enough to beat him.' Nicolas thought as he was a little disappointed that the fight ended abruptly.

Nicolas then approached Makarov who was scolding Gildarts and asked in an apologetic tone

"Excuse me. So did I pass the exam or not?"

Hearing Nicolas ask that, Gildarts bursted into laughter and said

"Kid, if you can't pass the exam with the strength you showed, I'm sure as hell that nobody else in the guild can."

Makarov then coughed twice and said in a loud voice for the spectators to hear:

"You successfully passed the exam. Congratulation to Nicolas Picaro for becoming Fairy Tail's second S-class mage."

The spectators then approached him and congratulated him.

Afterwards, they went back to the guild to celebrate Fairy tail's new S-class mage.
