Victor dealt harshly with Ryan Cooper’s pack for harassing Amanda, then took her to Fifth Avenue and bought her several new Hermès bags, finally coaxing a smile back onto her face.


Inside Tiffany & Co., Amanda was excitedly trying on diamond rings when Victor suddenly pulled out his phone as if remembering something.


He saw the unread text from Freya, then dialed her number. No answer.


Just as he frowned, his phone began to vibrate wildly.


A panicked voice came through the receiver, "Alpha! Something's wrong! The Mercer Island villa... it exploded!"


Victor's hand trembled, the phone nearly slipping from his grasp.


He abandoned Amanda and bolted out the door like a man possessed.


When he arrived, all that greeted him was a stretch of charred, smoldering ruins.


Victor's legs gave out. He staggered into the rubble, digging through the wreckage with his bare hands.
