Chapter 113: Ye Xun's Chip

After finishing class for the day, Mu Chen left the Inscription Academy.

A familiar figure appeared in front of his eyes again.

Mu Chen truly didn't understand how Ye Rong had the nerve to keep showing up again and again.

Mu Chen didn't know that Ye Rong's mind had already been twisted by jealousy. He only thought that if she wanted to replace Ye Shi, she'd end up destroying herself at Mu Chen's hands without him even needing to do anything.

In the eyes of many, Mu Chen was extremely gentle toward Ye Shi. If others had the same chance as Ye Rong, many girls would willingly throw themselves at him just to gain his kindness.

"You said that Ye Shi is no longer a member of the Ye family—I already knew that." Mu Chen interrupted Ye Rong.

Ye Rong anxiously said, "Ye Shi isn't part of the Ye family anymore, so his engagement with you is invalid."

Mu Chen closed his eyes, took a deep breath, opened them again, and said coldly to Ye Rong, "I like Ye Shi. I like him very much. I chose him not because he belongs to the Ye family, nor because of some marriage contract. It's simply because he's Ye Shi. I like him."

"If the Ye family and whoever originally set this engagement don't approve of Ye Shi, I will cancel the engagement without hesitation. Do you understand, Miss Ye?"

Ye Rong's face turned pale after hearing Mu Chen's words. She stood there speechless for several minutes before finally gritting her teeth and saying with a trembling voice, "You're really heartless! You've never said no to me before. I'm not arguing with Ye Shi anymore. If you really like him, no matter how many times I ask… I won't waste my time again." Mu Chen replied expressionlessly.

Ye Rong bit her lip, looked at Mu Chen full of resentment, blushed, and ran off.

Mu Chen narrowed his eyes, watching Ye Rong flee with a broken heart and an angry face.

"Student Mu, you really don't know how to cherish something with fragrance and jade!" Xie Danyan stepped out of the shadows.

Mu Chen replied coldly, "Why should I show sympathy just because someone is a woman? I have to make it clear to her that she shouldn't get obsessed with something that will only make her crazy."

Xie Danyan laughed and said, "Then yes! Young Master Mu, you really are a good person."

"Of course, I'm a good person," Mu Chen said naturally.

Xie Danyan smiled flirtatiously, clasped her hands together, bowed to Mu Chen, and said, "Then since Mu Chen is such a good man, could you sell me some of those Flame Talismans at a discount?"

"No," Mu Chen said firmly.

"Why not?" Xie Danyan asked, surprised.

Mu Chen walked closer and said with a smile, "Because I'm a good person. I treat everyone equally and don't discriminate."

Looking at Mu Chen's serious expression, Xie Danyan couldn't help but be stunned for a moment.

Before she could recover, Mu Chen suppressed his smile, turned around, and left.

Watching Mu Chen walk away, Xie Danyan stomped her foot angrily and left.

After Xie Danyan disappeared, a wave of energy rippled through the forest. Ye Shi removed the invisibility talisman from his body and stepped out from hiding. He had initially planned to follow Ye Rong to eavesdrop on the conversation but ended up hearing this instead.

Ye Shi bit his lip, a warm feeling bubbling up in his heart.

---

"Hey kid, where are you off to?"

Ye Shi was heading to Mu Chen's residence but was suddenly blocked by someone.

Seeing who it was, Ye Shi frowned.

"Hello, senior." Although Ye Shi was still dissatisfied with Xiong Wei, he was now Mu Chen's student, and had to give face.

"Kid, not bad! You're an eight-star martial artist now," said Xiong Wei with praise.

"Thank you for the compliment, Senior," Ye Shi replied shyly.

Xiong Wei looked Ye Shi up and down and said, "Although you're not bad, you're still far behind Mu Chen. That brat doesn't just do his own cultivation well; he also helps others understand things. If it weren't for him, my class would still be clueless. If you want to catch up, you need to work harder!"

Ye Shi smiled and replied, "Thank you, Senior."

Seeing Ye Shi's happy expression, Xiong Wei felt mixed emotions. He didn't really understand Ye Shi. What on earth is Coca-Cola?

Xiong Wei didn't know that Ye Shi only felt happier after hearing Mu Chen's praise than hearing anyone else compliment him.

"Senior, why didn't you come to see me when you left the quarry?" Ye Shi asked curiously.

"I was coming to see you!" Xiong Wei pouted.

Ye Shi shrugged. "There's not much to see in me."

Xiong Wei scoffed. "What do you mean not much to see? You're cute!"

"Really?" Ye Shi looked flattered.

"Yes! You look great! That brat Mu Chen gave me laxatives, and yet you—so cute—it's like he gave me poison disguised as candy." Xiong Wei looked bitter.

Mu Chen was awful, and that bastard Ye Shi was even more poisonous. That brat didn't even keep the laxative thing a secret and now everyone was laughing at him. In front of thousands of people, he became the academy's joke.

Ye Shi couldn't help smiling. As soon as he got out of seclusion, he heard that Mu Chen had drugged Xiong Wei, and he couldn't stop laughing. At the time, he hadn't thought Mu Chen took it seriously, but it turned out he did.

Ye Shi coughed, patted Xiong Wei's shoulder, and solemnly said, "Senior, to be honest, Mu Chen gave you those laxatives for your own good."

Xiong Wei narrowed his eyes. "Oh, so it was for my own good."

Ye Shi nodded solemnly. "Yes! Senior, you don't know—it's a special kind of laxative."

Xiong Wei rolled his eyes. "Huh?" He nearly fainted. Mu Chen, that brat, dared to drug him and then had Ye Shi make up excuses.

Ye Shi nodded again and said seriously, "It's a slimming laxative. You'll lose weight if you take it. It's really expensive."

"Get lost." Xiong Wei scolded angrily.

Ye Shi shrugged and walked away.

As he watched Ye Shi walk away, Xiong Wei again felt deeply insulted.

---

"Ye Shi." Ye Rong stopped Ye Shi's path a little hesitantly.

Ye Shi glanced at her.

When I saw Ye Rong, I remembered the 80,000 yuan fine for destroying school property and felt a shock in my heart.

"Ye Rong, what's your problem now?" Ye Shi asked impatiently.

Ye Rong extended a letter. "Father gave this to you."

Ye Shi looked at the letter, shook his head, and said, "I don't want it. Every time I read one of Ye Xun's letters, my stomach burns with rage." In fact, Ye Shi hadn't even read the most recent one.

"This letter is different from the others. You'll regret it if you don't read it," Ye Rong sneered.

Ye Shi frowned and looked at her suspiciously.

Ye Rong noticed his hesitation and said confidently, "If you don't want it, you'll lose out—but don't regret it later."

Ye Shi looked at her face, hesitated for a moment, then reached out and said, "Give it to me."

Ye Rong handed the letter to him and turned to leave.

Mu Chen's Courtyard

"Did Ye Xun write to you to say he has something from your biological father?" Mu Chen asked.

Ye Shi nodded. "Yes!"

Mu Chen narrowed his eyes. The son of a major family didn't even know who his biological father was—how ridiculous.

"What terms did Ye Xun offer?" Mu Chen asked.

"Sixty million yuan stones," Ye Shi frowned.

Mu Chen raised an eyebrow. "That's quite the appetite."

Ye Shi nodded. "Yes!"

"As long as he keeps his word, 60 million is fine," Mu Chen said thoughtfully.

Ye Shi frowned and muttered, "It's still 60 million!"

Mu Chen narrowed his eyes. "If you win, Yuanshi is yours. It's also a clue to your birth father. But if you lose, you'll regret it forever."

"What is there to regret? He abandoned my parents," Ye Shi said coldly.

Mu Chen looked at Ye Shi thoughtfully. Though Ye Shi said that, he probably still had lingering feelings about his father. Even if Ye Xun was a terrible person, he'd still raised him for years. Some respect had to exist.

"Maybe it's a last resort," Mu Chen said.

Ye Shi lowered his head and said dejectedly, "Sixty million is too much. I only have thirty."

"Mu Chen, how many yuan stones do you have left?" Ye Shi asked curiously.

Mu Chen grinned and said, "Well…" He held up three fingers.

Ye Shi frowned. "You're not spending it all, are you?"

Mu Chen had made a lot of money—but also spent a lot. Whenever he got yuan stones, he bought talisman books, inscription books, formation books, or all kinds of weapons and junk.

"How is that possible?" Mu Chen said in disapproval.

"Twelve million?" Ye Shi asked.

"There are still four days until the rest day. Yuanshi can be earned slowly." Mu Chen smiled.

"There are only four days," Ye Shi said with concern.

"No worries. Come with me." Mu Chen extended his hand.

Ye Shi grabbed Mu Chen's hand and followed him.

---

They walked past shop after shop. Mu Chen spent tens of millions on third-level weapons.

Ye Shi followed him and said, "This is how you spend money on weapons?"

Mu Chen nodded. "Yes! These weapons are cheap."

Ye Shi pouted. "Even so, 500 or 600 thousand yuan per piece is still expensive!"

Third-level weapons usually cost around a million yuan. Those with inscriptions cost two to three million. Ones that failed to hold inscriptions cost half as much.

All the weapons Mu Chen bought were ones that failed inscription. Ye Shi had no idea what use they would be.

"This is the last one," Mu Chen said.

Ye Shi hesitated. "I still have to buy it!"

Mu Chen smiled and said, "Let's go."
