When Ren Tai opened his eyes, it was already night.
The cool air of the forest greeted him, laced with the scent of damp earth and wild herbs. The trees around the cave rustled softly, moonlight spilling through their gaps and casting shifting silver shadows over the ground. Crickets sang in the underbrush, and the world felt still — as if it held its breath, waiting for what would come next.
He had stabilized his foundation. The 4th stage of Qi Condensation pulsed gently within him, steady and balanced. The warmth from his cultivation had long faded, replaced by a quiet harmony between spirit and flesh.
But Ren Tai's mind wasn't on his body.
His gaze drifted toward the star-filled sky. Memories — Thalasar's memories — flashed across his mind, vivid and immersive. The last moments of a fallen saber cultivator, the echoes of a life spent chasing perfection, of loss and regret, and of an unyielding will. And beneath all of it, something else.
Something Ren had forgotten.
"I really did miss something…" he muttered to himself, clenching the saber that once belonged to the man.
His grip tightened.
The foundation of saber training. There were other thing but not as important as this for now.
Not flashy techniques or wild slashes fueled by brute force. No, Thalasar's memories spoke of structure, rhythm, discipline. Saber mastery wasn't born in the battlefield — it was forged in relentless repetition.
His path had to begin again.
Saber Foundation Training
"Master these six motions," Thalasar's voice echoed, gruff and uncompromising, "before you dare call yourself a blade-wielder."
The words echoed in his mind, clear and commanding.
The Four Core Cuts

A downward cross-strike from high guard to low hip.
Drill: Strike at bamboo poles without glancing blows.
The Essential Thrust – "Pike Drive"
A full extension thrust.

Parries & Blocks
Roof Block – "Iron Ceiling": Horizontal guard to deflect overhead.

Hanging Guard – "Serpent's Jaw": Downward angled blade for counter-thrusts.
Drill: Parry thrusts and riposte with precision.
Footwork Drills – Blade and Body in Harmony
Advance-Lunge-Cut
Step forward → lunge → vertical cut → recover.
Goal: No wobble after the strike.
Retreating Diagonal
Step back → falling diagonal → reset.
Goal: Maintain balance while withdrawing.
A light breeze swept through the trees, stirring the leaves into a whisper. Somewhere deeper in the woods, an owl called once, then fell silent. The cave's cool stone floor still radiated the lingering warmth of his breakthrough, and the faint scent of ash and blood clung to the night air—a memory of the battle that had come before.
The silence felt clean now. New.
Ren Tai exhaled, slowly rising to his feet. The moonlight caught on the edge of his saber, now cleaned and bound in new cloth.
This time, he wouldn't rush.
No shortcuts. No arrogance.
Each motion would be etched into bone, breath, and memory — until even sleep could not forget them.
When next he drew his blade…
He would not falter.
The blade had waited long enough. Technique before power — this was the law of the saber. A forgotten truth, now reborn in him.
Beneath the silent moon, the blade's true path began anew.
