## Chapter Seventeen: A New Ally, Deeper Secrets
---
Lux brought Dr. Kane to a temporary hideout outside Border City, a spacious natural cave he'd previously discovered. Dr. Kane was exhausted but safe.
"Why did you save me?" Dr. Kane asked, looking at Lux with curious eyes. "Who are you?"
"My name is Raven... for now," Lux said, taking off his coat and sitting opposite him. "But I am not who you think. I am from another world, embodied in this man's body. And I came to you because I believe you possess the knowledge I need."
Lux briefly explained his story, about being reincarnated in Raven's body, about the Shadow Organization, and about Laila and the **"Energy Key."**
Dr. Kane listened with great interest, his eyes gleaming. "An amazing... and unexpected story. So, you're not the cold-blooded killer Raven is rumored to be?"
"No," Lux replied. "I am Lux. And I am trying to save an innocent girl from a terrible fate. And I believe you might be the key to that."
Dr. Kane sighed. "Yes, I have much knowledge. I have dedicated my life to studying the hidden forces of this world, bio-engineering, and the secrets buried by ancient civilizations."
"I heard you were researching the **'Immortals,'**" Lux said.
Dr. Kane's eyes widened. "The Immortals... they are the beings that all forces in this world have sought to understand or control. They are not merely humans with extended lifespans, but beings who have overcome death itself, possessing powers beyond human comprehension. It's said they were the builders of the Energy Key, and that they held the secret of life and death."
"How can this help me?" Lux asked.
"If you can access the knowledge of the Immortals, or even communicate with one of them, we might find a solution to Laila's problem," Dr. Kane stated. "And you might find a way to free yourself from this body."
Lux knew he had found an invaluable ally. Dr. Kane, despite his physical weakness, possessed a brilliant mind and knowledge that could shift the balance of power in this war.
"What about the Shadow Organization?" Lux asked. "Do you know the Dark Lord?"
Dr. Kane trembled slightly. "The Dark Lord... he is more complex than you think, Lux. He is not just the leader of an organization. He seeks a power beyond control over this world. He seeks the **'Absolute Essence.'**"
"The Absolute Essence?" Lux repeated.
"It is the source of all energy, all life, and all existence in this universe," Dr. Kane explained. "If the Dark Lord reaches it, there will be no hope. He will control everything and destroy all we know."
Lux realized the stakes were far greater than he had initially imagined. This was not just a battle between good and evil, but a battle for the fate of existence itself.
