## Chapter Twenty-Two: Threads of Fate and the Promise of Return

---

The Night Guard's new secret hideout, nestled deep within a dense, remote forest, was a place for rest and recovery. Dr. Kane was engrossed in analyzing the data he had extracted from the Immortals' Lab, and Echo and her team were planning their next steps. Lux, however, after a period of exhilaration from their success, began to feel a strange pressure weighing him down.

Lux sat alone in the observation room, staring at the holographic maps displaying the movements of the Shadow Organization and the Confederacy forces. The new data from Dr. Kane revealed the extent of the manipulation and control the **"Dark Lord"** exercised over this world. Not just over individuals and organizations, but even over the course of historical events that Lux had thought were random.

Suddenly, Echo entered, carrying a cup of warm liquid. "What's wrong, Lux? You seem distant."

"I'm thinking... about all of this," Lux said, his voice carrying a note of weariness Echo hadn't heard before. "About the Dark Lord, about the Immortals, about the Energy Key, and about Laila."

Echo sat beside him. "These are all heavy burdens, I know. But together, we can face them."

"But are we truly doing that?" Lux asked, turning to her, his eyes gleaming with a kind of disappointment. "Or are we just pawns in a larger game?"

Echo was surprised by his question. "What do you mean?"

"Dr. Kane spoke of the 'perfect vessel' I was supposed to be for the Dark Lord. Of the 'human energy key' that Laila is," Lux said, standing up and pacing the room. "Everything seems pre-written. As if I'm just a tool, just a part of someone else's plan."

Lux remembered the moment he was reincarnated in Raven's body. The sound of the car, the white light. Was it just a coincidence? Or was his soul "pulled" into this body for a specific purpose? Was he destined to be just a weapon, whether for the Shadow or the Night Guard?

The feeling of shock and frustration intensified within him. He thought he was fighting for his freedom, for Laila, and for the truth. But what if it was all just an illusion? What if his fate was predetermined?

"This cannot be all that I am," Lux muttered in a low voice, a hint of anger creeping into his tone. "My fate cannot be to be manipulated and controlled. I need to find my own reason to fight, to live!"

Echo remained silent, absorbing the depth of his pain and frustration.

Lux looked at Echo, then at Jalen, Sierra, and Dr. Kane, who had approached, drawn by Lux's raised voice. "I'm sorry. But I cannot stay here. I cannot fight anymore as a tool for anyone or any organization."

"What do you mean, Lux?" Jalen asked in a surprised voice.

"I am leaving," Lux said, his decision final. "I will leave the Night Guard."

Everyone's eyes widened in shock.

"But why?" Sierra asked, showing signs of sadness. "We need you. Laila needs you."

"I know," Lux said, his voice returning to its calm tone, but filled with resolve. "And I will return. This isn't a final goodbye. But I need to find my own path in this world. I need to discover a true reason for my existence, a reason that *I*, Lux, will fight for, not Raven, nor anyone's tool."

Echo slowly approached Lux, her eyes holding a mixture of understanding and pain. "You are choosing a very difficult path, Lux. This world is dangerous, and the Dark Lord will not hesitate to hunt you."

"I know," Lux nodded. "But I will challenge him. I will challenge my destiny. When I find my true reason for living, when I discover what I must fight for, I will return. And I will be stronger than you can imagine. I will be ready to face the Dark Lord on my own terms."

Lux extended his hand to shake Echo's. "Trust me. I promise you that. When I find the reason... I will return."

Echo squeezed his hand tightly. "We will wait for you, Lux. Be careful."

Lux left the hideout in the middle of the night. He carried with him only his weapon and his clothes, a heavy burden of questions and doubts, but also a newfound sense of freedom and determination. He was about to embark on his solitary journey in this mysterious world, searching for his own reason for existence, for the spark that would illuminate his path and define his destiny. He was no longer just a pawn in others' games. He had begun to write his own story, the story of Lux, the rebel against fate.
