Chapter 7

Adrian touched the livor mortis on Alex's arm, then stood up and rounded on me. "Diana, you did this! How could you be so cruel?"

"This wasn't supposed to be his end, how could he be dead? This is your cottage, what on earth did you do?"

I looked at him, speechless. "Use your brain. He has that much livor mortis on his body, which means he was gone last night."

"Last night, did we even see each other?"

That one sentence was a wake-up call.

Adrian grabbed Nadia abruptly. "You were the one who got that medicine, and you were the one who fed it to him. What exactly was it?"

Nadia looked even more innocent than he did, her tears falling uncontrollably.

Her voice was hoarse from crying. "I don't know either. I've already done everything I could, Adrian. I even gave him my blood..."

She rolled up her sleeve, revealing an arm covered in mottled needle marks.

Adrian's heart softened. His eyes shifted, and he turned to beg me.
