Medusa stood still for a few seconds, collecting herself after taking over the young girl's body. She had complete control over her new form, but her mind hadn't fully settled into it yet. When she looked around, Medusa felt as though she was simultaneously observing the young girl from within her old body and seeing her severed head from inside her new one.
She remained motionless until she felt the last remnants of her soul enter the new body. Then, she inhaled deeply. Medusa's gaze swept over her surroundings, her eyes growing colder with each passing second. She had been confined to this room for decades, and now that she had regained her freedom, she desired to incinerate the world, to bring all things to an end, and to soothe her fractured heart. Her new eyes, once as blue as the purest of lakes, were rapidly darkening to black. She felt herself drowning in a sea of darkness, on the verge of losing control. Quickly, she closed her eyes and calmed herself. She had meticulously planned her escape for a very long time and would not squander all her plotting and effort just to release a little rage. She became as serene as anyone could possibly be.
"The first thing I have to do is clean up this mess before leaving as fast and as calmly as I can," she thought.
"Through the power of the Old Ones, the ones who sit above all things yet judge not the living, I call upon the power in my blood to fill up my soul and rejuvenate my being." These words left her body and spread into the world, entering realms beyond human understanding. A wave of power then rushed back at her with even more vigor. The power entered her body and soul, making them an extension of the magic that flowed through the world, binding all things.
When Medusa felt this power, she could not believe its bottomless and endless nature. This was not the power of a mere girl, but that of a powerful being. During her time as the most feared Gorgon in the world, she had further honed her magic, practicing until she became one of the most powerful witches to walk the earth. Still, her own power was weak compared to the power she was cursed with. Because of this, most people didn't even remember her talents as a witch, sorcerer, and many other things. She practiced and grew as a sorcerer but finally reached a limit she could not overcome. This was because her blood connection to the Old Ones was far too diluted. When she felt the power that entered her new body, she understood that she had not taken over the body of some ordinary girl. This body contained a very powerful bloodline, and with it, she could delve deeper into magic. If the young girl had been allowed to grow up, she would have become one of the most powerful magicians in the world.
Medusa understood all of this and adjusted her plans a little. Originally, she had planned on activating the magic within her new body and then using a forbidden spell to wipe out the room and anything else around it. Now that she felt the power within the young girl, she understood that doing this would not bode well for her, since the young girl's parents must be powerful in their own right to produce the power within her new body. She had to come up with another plan to escape, and she didn't dare waste any time. She cast another spell and cleaned up the mess she had made while taking over the young girl. With the room put back together and everything back in its rightful place, she cast one last spell before someone finally opened the door.
It was a maid. The young woman looked completely terror-stricken as she grabbed Medusa and left the room as fast as possible.
Medusa had taken over everything that was the young girl, and this included her memories and everything else. She learned everything about the girl, and with this information, she managed to integrate herself into her new environment. Even though it had been centuries since she was a child, she managed to pull off the act with little difficulty.
The young girl was called Ecaterina Dănescu. Medusa did not like the name at all, but she had no choice but to continue going by this name. Fortunately for her, the people in her new home called her Cate. This was at least more bearable.
Her new home was a large palace far from any humans. It was also very far from Athens. Medusa had limited information on where exactly she was. She made sure not to look too suspicious as she asked questions to the maids, who seemed to be the only other people in the large palace. She learned that she was in Romania, inside the Wandering Palace. This palace was created by powerful sorcerers who passed it down to their families. Cate was a descendant of these powerful people. The palace did not stay in one place. It moved through space and changed location every seven days. This was one of the many defenses put in place on the palace, but there were many more. One of these was that only those who had permission from the master of the Wandering Palace could see it. This meant that even when the palace appeared above human cities, it remained invisible to everyone.
Medusa was very intrigued by this palace, and with intrigue, she grew to love her new home, especially after she learned that her parents were already dead and she was the last of her bloodline. This meant that she didn't have to bother getting revenge on these people, and she could simply settle into her new life.
She was the master of the Wandering Palace, and from what she learned from the maids, there was no place safer for someone with her bloodline. In here, no one could harm her in any way unless she was too ignorant to use the palace's power. Medusa felt very lucky to have met the young girl before she had the opportunity to bind the palace and become its true master.
