The girl whom everyone was calling Kaira — suddenly, flashes of her past began to appear before her eyes. As those memories unfolded in front of her, her trembling face gradually began to calm down.
After a few moments of restlessness and a sharp wave of pain in her head, Kaira became completely still. She looked at the man sitting in front of her, whose face was etched with deep lines of worry and whose eyes clearly reflected fear and anxiety.
Staring at him, Kaira spoke in a soft yet steady voice,"Brother..."
The moment that word left her lips, the man sitting across from her — who had been consumed by panic — suddenly let out a deep, heavy breath and sat up straight. It felt as if that single word had lifted some of the burden off his heart.
Kian gently placed his hand on Kaira's head and said in a calm voice,
"Princess, is this the way to handle things? I understand you weren't selected in the Jian Industry interview... but that doesn't mean you try to end your life!"
"What...? Interview…" Kaira was stunned.
"Yes... Jasmine told me everything," Kian replied softly.
Jasmine... Kaira's closest and most trusted friend. When Kaira broke down after being rejected in the interview, it was Jasmine who had suggested that she pretend to drown—just to get everyone's attention.
But Kaira had no idea that such a childish move could actually cost her life.
Kian continued,"If you want to work, we have our own company. Why do you feel the need to prove yourself somewhere else? Your worth isn't defined by a single rejection, Kaira."
Kaira kept staring at Kian, who sat across from her. Her eyes brimmed with emotions, but her face remained still and calm.
After a few silent moments, she finally said in a soft voice,
"I want to be alone for a while... after that, I'll answer your question."
Kian understood her state of mind. He didn't insist. He simply nodded and left the room quietly, giving his sister the space she needed.
Kaira slowly got up from the bed and walked unsteadily towards the mirror.
The moment she saw herself, she was left speechless.
Her face was almost unrecognizable—layers of heavy makeup, swollen eyes, and disheveled hair… She looked absolutely terrifying.
She whispered to herself,
"Is this... really me?"
After staring at herself in the mirror for quite some time, a sudden turmoil stirred in Kaira's mind.
Gradually, one thought struck her — the idea of drowning in the water… it was Jasmine who had suggested it.
But why?
Jasmine was Kaira's best friend. Then why would she suggest something that could cost her life?
Things that once seemed minor to Ruby now began to appear like pieces of a much deeper puzzle.
"Jian Industry… that's a jewelry industry. And Kaira has no experience in jewelry designing. Then why did Jasmine insist so much that she go for that interview? Did she already know Kaira wouldn't get selected? Then why was she trying to mislead her like that?"
With every question, another one emerged.
"And Kaira's marriage…?
Yes… Kaira is married.
Then why isn't she living with her husband?
Why is she staying at her brother's house?"
Her head was pounding.
These tangled thoughts were breaking her from within.
"And the biggest question — who am I?"
She slid down against the wall and sat on the floor.
Her eyes were misty, and her heart was in complete turmoil.
"I've already been separated from my own world… I don't even know how I suddenly ended up in someone else's body.
And now, the person whose body I've entered — her life is a complete mess of confusion."
In an exhausted tone, she whispered to herself,"Is all this a dream… or some mysterious conspiracy?"
Now, she didn't just want to understand herself— She wanted to understand the life she had unknowingly become trapped in…
After spending a while lost in deep thought, Ruby finally spoke to herself in a firm voice, "No, Ruby… whatever my identity was in the past, it belongs to the past. Now I am part of a new life, in a new body — a body whose name is Kaira Carter… and after marriage, Kaira Jian."
"I have to start my life anew… with a new identity. I must forget that painful past — and that love, which never valued me…"
Ruby was now fully prepared to accept herself as Kaira.
This new identity wasn't just a name — it was an opportunity. A chance to begin again, as a new bride, with a new dream.
She wanted to pursue a career that she could never have as Ruby.
This life of Kaira had now become the gateway to fulfilling the dreams Ruby once buried.
Ruby had always been passionate about jewelry designing, but because of Jackson, she gave up on her dream midway — she had paid the price of love with her future.
And now…
When she was finally getting the chance to fulfill that dream — even if in someone else's body — there was a peaceful smile on her face.
"At least now… I'll finally be able to give wings to my dreams."
She looked at herself in the mirror — and for the first time, truly accepted herself.
She was no longer just Ruby…
Now she was Kaira Jian, at the beginning of a whole new story.
Kaira was talking to herself, lost in her thoughts, when suddenly, the silence of her room was broken by the sound of a phone ringing.
She shifted her gaze away from the mirror and looked around the room.
Within moments, her eyes landed on the phone placed on the side table — the ringing was coming from there.
She quickly walked over, picked up the phone, and looked at the screen.
A name was flashing on it…
"Hubby…"
The moment her eyes fell on that name, her heart skipped a beat.
"Husband…"
Yes, it was his number — Kaira's husband.
Even though she was actually Ruby,
Right now, living in Kaira's body, the world saw her as no one else but —
Kaira Jian… his wife.
She took a deep breath and stood still, staring at the screen…
The phone kept ringing for a while and then stopped.
But just a few moments later, the same ringtone echoed again.
This time, Kaira didn't delay.
She quickly picked up the phone and said, "Hello?"
A calm but cold voice came from the other end:
"Grandpa is coming home tomorrow, so let go of your anger and come back.
I know you're waiting for me, but I told you on the very first day of our marriage — this is just a marriage of convenience, done only to make Grandpa happy. Don't expect anything from me. So there's no need to be upset either. You can stay at your brother's place, I have no issue with that. But tomorrow, just come home to meet Grandpa. After that, you're free to go wherever you want and do whatever you wish."
Kaira was about to say something when the call ended abruptly.
She stared at the phone with surprise and mild annoyance, muttering,
"What a strange man! Got married, called just to give orders, and hung up without even listening to a response…"
She clenched her teeth in frustration.
But the next moment, she felt a pang of guilt and softly whispered, "Maybe Kaira too was crazy in love… just like me… or else…"
Kaira gently pressed her temples and said to herself, "No… I can't let myself get lost in all that again. Now I just need to focus on my career.
Love and all that—it's not for me.
If this body's husband turns out to be a good man, fine… Otherwise, I'll forget about him too. I'll behave respectfully, like a decent human being—nothing more."
Saying this, she glanced once at the phone screen, then placed it back on the table.
Her attention now shifted to the wardrobe.
As she stepped toward it and opened the doors — She was stunned.
This wasn't an ordinary wardrobe…
It looked like a luxury boutique.
Clothes, sandals, bags, jewelry — everything was not only neatly arranged, but all of it was branded.
Each item reflected pure royalty.
Every piece of clothing probably cost a million.
Kaira stood there in awe, A small smile formed on her lips as she whispered in disbelief — "Have I really been reborn into such a wealthy family?"
Kaira stood in front of the wardrobe for a while, as if she were in a dream.
Such elegance, such luxury…
She had never imagined that one day, she would breathe in a world where everything was defined not by its price, but by its grace.
Slowly, she picked out a dress from the wardrobe — a deep maroon silk gown.
"Maybe… it's time to introduce the world to this 'new Kaira',"
she whispered to herself.
With the dress in hand, she walked toward the washroom — ready to prepare herself for a new beginning.
Perhaps when she would go to the house tomorrow, the one they called her in-laws' home,
she wouldn't go merely as someone's wife…
but with her own identity.
Standing in front of the mirror in the washroom, Kaira got ready for the first time on her own terms.
Not according to her in-laws' preferences, not by Jasmine's suggestions, and not for any husband's expectations…
but for herself — just the way she had always dreamed of being.
She neatly tied her hair, applied light makeup, and looked at herself in the mirror one final time.
"From now on, I will live for myself… as Kaira Jian,"
she said with a soft smile to her reflection.
Wait for the next chapter.….
