33: Lin Yi's System

Unlike many transmigrators who awaken cheat-like powers, Lin Yi's system wasn't granted to him by some higher power… It was one he created himself.

Before arriving in the world of Teyvat, he'd experienced a strange and fleeting encounter—a conversation with the world itself.

"Child, are you leaving?"

A gentle female voice had asked, one so warm it reminded him of a mother.

But back then, Lin Yi had been in a daze.

"Who... are you?"

"I am all things. I am nature. I am the spirit of this world.

I know you are in pain—that's why you left so decisively."

There was no emotion in the voice, yet her words stirred up a strange confusion in Lin Yi's heart.

"Pain… I'm sorry, I don't remember."

Holding his forehead, he realized much of his memory was gone—blurred like smudged graphite on a sketchpad.

"I erased parts of your memory. I hoped it would bring you some peace."

So that was the reason for his amnesia. Lin Yi accepted it quietly. Whatever he'd forgotten, it must not have been anything good.

"You can no longer return to me," the voice continued.

"You've already stepped beyond the crossroads of fate. Have you decided where you want to go?"

"…Where I want to go?" He thought about it. Deep down, there was only one answer. Something like a compulsion.

"Teyvat. I think… I wanted to go there from the beginning."

"Teyvat?"

The voice grew soft. "That world teeters on the brink of ruin. Are you sure?"

Lin Yi nodded.

"Yeah. I don't know why, but I'm sure."

"Very well. Then allow me to give you a parting gift. Is there anything you want?"

In that moment of infinite whiteness, a blue screen appeared before him—like a skill-tree interface from an RPG.

Lin Yi grinned and replied:

"A system. Give me a system."

"As you wish. I hope it can take care of you in my place…"

And just like that, the voice faded. Lin Yi was left with a system he could customize himself.

It wasn't anything overpowered. In fact, by transmigrator standards, it was downright modest. It had a few basic functions:

1. Appraisal and Analysis

He could scan any target in his visual field, identifying their name, background, skills, status, level, constellation, and even activated constellations and fate stars. The more his appraisal skill leveled up, the more detailed the information became.

2. Ley Line Resonance

This ability let him harness the energy of ley lines—boosting other people's levels or drawing materials from "ley line accumulation points," essentially mimicking game-like dungeons.

It also gave him access to Statues of The Seven and teleport waypoints, letting him move around the world freely.

3. Artifact Enhancement

A +15 artifact was obviously leagues above a +0 one. This let him boost a character's power significantly. And as a bonus—it was a lucrative side hustle.

Lin Yi had a feeling Diluc wouldn't mind trading a few crates of his finest red wine for a well-rolled artifact.

4. Weapon Enhancement & Refinement

This one was… less useful than he thought.

While enhancing was still possible, refinement was useless for powerful weapons that were unique artifacts—like Zhongli's Vortex Vanquisher, or Saphir's No Lament | Hollow Sky. There were no duplicates to refine.

5. Dragonborn Ability – Words of Power

This was Lin Yi's true combat core. He had imported the Dragon Language abilities from the novel Dragon Raja—including things like Scythe Wind, Snake, Land of No Dust, Bloodline Entanglement, and if he pushed himself hard enough, even the devastating Word of Power: Rhine.

6. Bonded Blessing

This one wasn't from his customization. Lin Yi suspected it was the world's own "gift"... or perhaps a bit of cosmic mischief.

"Any person who confirms a companion relationship with the host will receive the world's protection:

Increased luck

Unlockable enhancements based on relationship progression

Rewards tied to emotional milestones"

Lin Yi didn't tell Saphir everything—especially not the Words of Power. That was his hidden ace. But he did explain a few harmless functions: Appraisal, artifact upgrades, weapon enhancements, ley line energy boosts, and the sixth ability…

When he got to the sixth point, Saphir gave him a look of deep suspicion.

"The first few are fine. But that last one?

A companion system? Like... that kind of companion?"

Lin Yi nodded calmly.

"Exactly. I tested it. It's real."

"YOU. TESTED. IT!?"

Saphir's voice shot up an octave, catching the attention of the "four little ones" nearby—Lumine, Barbara, Noelle… and Paimon.

But Saphir ignored them all, consumed by burning gossip flames.

"With who?! Is it someone I know? Don't tell me you just randomly tested it on some poor girl! Aren't you chasing Jean right now? You scumbag! That poor girl you left behind must be heartbroken!"

Lin Yi gave her a deadpan look.

"Can you not go full soap opera on me?

I didn't go all the way. I tested it with Keqing."

"KEQING!?"

Saphir's mind immediately recalled the purple-haired catgirl she'd met at Stone Gate. Lin Yi had mentioned her in passing, saying it was thanks to Keqing that he found Saphir again.

He nodded.

"I met Keqing in Liyue a few years ago.

I courted her for a long time before we made it official.

Once we confirmed our relationship, she got access to part of my system—like messaging me across great distances, basically texting but better."

Saphir narrowed her eyes and asked cautiously:

"So… how far did you go?

Don't get the wrong idea. I just want to understand how that companion reward system actually works."

Lin Yi saw through her but didn't call it out.

"After we held hands, she got access to Appraisal.

After we hugged, she unlocked Elemental Vision.

A kiss granted her Ley Line Affinity—she can now teleport via any waypoint I've touched.

That's as far as we went."

Saphir was impressed. She nodded slowly, absorbing every detail, muttering under her breath.

But then, her eyes widened in realization.

"Wait—you said she has Appraisal now?

Then she's already seen through my disguise!?"

"Yep." Lin Yi confirmed.

"She didn't out you because I told her to hold off—

I wasn't sure of your plan yet.

But Ningguang probably knows by now too."

That part was guaranteed. Keqing had already messaged Ningguang the moment Saphir left for Mondstadt:

"Saphir is on the move. Her destination: Mondstadt. Unknown intentions."

Saphir didn't know whether to be impressed or envious.

After a moment, she extended her hand.

"What are you doing?" Lin Yi raised an eyebrow.

Her cheeks reddened slightly.

"Let's hold hands. I want Appraisal too."

Lin Yi chuckled.

"Doesn't work that way.

If you don't genuinely acknowledge me as your partner, the system won't trigger."

Still, he reached out and took her hand—nothing happened.

Saphir pouted and withdrew.

She felt miserable.

Not quite like heartbreak, but close.

It was the feeling of standing before a tantalizing feast, only to be told,

"You can't eat unless you fall in love."

Not only that—you can't lie. The system could detect sincerity. You couldn't fake your way into its rewards.

This was worse than when Hu Tao found out Thoma's bear had the biggest hitbox in her banner.

"Jealousy solves nothing," Saphir thought.

"But the things I can't have… always stir the strongest cravings."

As she stewed in silent frustration, Lin Yi leaned close and whispered playfully—

"There's always time. We've got plenty ahead of us.

Who's to say… that someday,

you won't fall for me too?"
