Chapter 4 — That Was... A Kiss?!
School rooftop — after classes. The wind is sharp. Tension, sharper.
"Are you a total idiot?! Don't ever come that close again without thinking!!"
The girl's voice echoed across the empty rooftop.
Naji-kun froze in place, eyes wide, lips parted.
She had pushed him back—
…without another word.
"Do you think it's funny?! Or are you just stupid?! Ughhh!!"
Her face was beet red, her fists clenched.
She turned sharply, hair whipping in the breeze, and stormed away without looking back.
He didn't say a word.
He couldn't.
---
Naji's POV:
> "W-What… just happened…?"
I touched my lips instinctively, heart thudding so loud it echoed in my ears.
Something felt… intense.
Familiar, yet strange.
Like my world had shifted without warning.
My mind was a mess, rewinding the scene over and over like a broken film reel.
Did I lean in by accident?
Did she…?
But no matter how many times I replayed it, everything blurred at the edges.
> "Why can't I think straight…?"
---
The Girl's POV:
My heart is pounding. My face is on fire.
> "I yelled at him… but I didn't mean to. That wasn't fair."
I kept walking fast — down the stairs, through the hallway, trying to disappear into the crowd.
>Just a few minutes ago…
He leaned in — slowly, unsure.
She didn't move.
Soft wind… a shared breath…
Their lips met.
Not long. Not perfect. Just real.
Her eyes widened.
His stayed closed.
And just like that —
She pulled away, face burning.
They kissed.
...
> "Why did I let it happen…? No—why did I want it to happen?"
I bit my lip and stopped beside the window, hiding behind the curtain.
That idiot.
That stupid… kind idiot.
> "He doesn't even know how I feel. Of course he doesn't."
I pressed a hand to my chest.
> "But now he's going to think I hate him."
The truth was simpler, crueler, softer.
> "…I love him. I just don't know how to show it."
I looked down at my shaking fingers.
> "…That was my first kiss."
---
Back on the rooftop…
Naji-kun stood alone.
Still holding his chest.
Still wondering what that moment meant.
Still unsure if it was a mistake… or something more.
