The moment Onix appeared, its colossal body and the disdainful, icy gaze it cast upon the tiny Pokémon instantly startled Pikachu.
"Pika! Pika!"
Pikachu scurried back to Ash, tugging at his shirt, trying to press the buttons on his other Poké Balls, attempting to switch places with Ash's other Pokémon for the battle!
"Hey, hey!" Ash grabbed Pikachu, annoyed. "Pikachu! Don't make decisions on your own and switch with Pidgeotto! Go battle!"
Under Ash's prodding, Pikachu reluctantly returned to the battlefield.
Using Electric-type against Ground…
From the stands, Ethan smiled silently. Not understanding type advantages and battling haphazardly—this was both Ash's weakness and his strength. And precisely because of this, he could repeatedly defeat powerful foes with creative tactics. However, at present, his experience was still too shallow…
Shaking his head, Ethan took out his Pokédex from his pocket and aimed it at Pikachu. Ash's Pikachu, in appearance, was no different from common Pikachu. Its fur was soft and golden-yellow all over. Its ears were long, and it had two red, round electric sacs on its cheeks. Its tail was a jagged lightning bolt, and its pair of shiny black eyes made it look very cute.
Pokédex: "Beep. Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon. Electric-type. Also known as the Electric Mouse. The electric sacs on its cheeks can store electricity. When angry, it releases all its stored electricity at once, delivering an electric shock."
Ethan then pointed his Pokédex at Onix.
Onix had a long rock horn on its head. Its body was enormous, composed of multiple huge gray rocks, shaped like a snake, looking incredibly mighty and domineering.
Pokédex: "Beep. Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon. Rock/Ground-type. Its body, made of linked giant boulders, resembles a massive snake. It can swallow earth while creating long tunnels, moving underground at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour."
At Brock's command, the battle had already begun.
"Onix! Use Tackle!"
In the arena, hearing the command, Onix's massive body coiled, swinging its huge head to strike Pikachu fiercely. Pikachu darted up and down, terrified by Onix's intimidating presence. It only knew to run, with no thought of counterattacking. Soon, Onix seized an opportunity and tightly wrapped its tail around it.
"Excellent, Onix, use Bind!"
Seeing Pikachu unable to move and struggling in pain under Onix's immense strength, Ash watched anxiously from the sidelines and couldn't help but shout, "Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!"
Hearing Ash's words, electric sparks crackled on Pikachu's cheeks, then a powerful bolt of electricity erupted. But even so, it caused no damage to Onix.
On the other side, Brock stood with his arms crossed: "As a Trainer, your method is completely misguided. Do you really think you can defeat my Onix with just Thunder Shock? How naive!"
"Darn it!" Ash clenched his fists, gritting his teeth, but saw Pikachu growing more distressed, still unable to break free. Finally, he reluctantly shouted, "Please stop! I forfeit this match!"
Seeing Brock nod, Onix finally loosened its tail. Pikachu dropped down and was immediately scooped up by Ash, who had rushed into the arena.
"Are you okay, Pikachu?"
Seeing the battle end, Ethan slowly walked down from the spectator stands, unsure how to comfort Ash at that moment. However, given Ash's personality, he would likely recover quickly.
Approaching the Trainer's command area, Ethan said to Brock, "Alright, the appetizer's over. Now it's my turn."
Looking at Ethan, Brock recalled Onix and took out another Poké Ball. "You look completely different from that person just now."
"Although he's still a bit naive and lacks some experience right now," Ethan chuckled, "I believe with enough training, he will one day become a respected Pokémon Master."
Ash, who was carrying Pikachu and walking up to the spectator stands, heard this and suddenly turned around. Being acknowledged for the first time, his eyes welled up slightly. This person… thinks so highly of me?
"Come on out, Geodude!" Brock then threw his Poké Ball. With a flash of blue light, a round rock with sturdy arms appeared before Ethan.
Pokédex: "Beep. Geodude, the Rock Pokémon. Rock/Ground-type. Mostly inhabits mountains and forests. It buries half its body in the ground, observing hikers' movements. Because it looks much like a rock, passersby often accidentally step on it and trip."
Ethan turned, his gaze shifting between Squirtle and Bulbasaur, then he said to Bulbasaur, "Bulbasaur, this battle is yours!"
"Bulba, Bulba!"
Whether it was Water-type Squirtle or Grass-type Bulbasaur against a Rock/Ground-type Pokémon, due to the double type advantage, they could deal four times the damage. So, no matter which one he chose, this battle looked quite easy.
In the stands, seeing Ash approach, Misty first stroked Pikachu's forehead, then joked to Ash, "Knowing about type advantages, it seems Ethan is a better strategist than a simpleton like you. He's a proper Trainer."
Surprisingly, Ash didn't retort. Instead, he watched Ethan's every move carefully. Perhaps it was Ethan's earlier acknowledgment that made Ash pay more attention to him.
Once Bulbasaur and Geodude were in position, the match officially began.
"Geodude, use Tackle!"
Ethan shouted, "Bulbasaur, let's show it our new move! Use Razor Leaf!"
Before Geodude could get close, many green-glowing leaves suddenly appeared around Bulbasaur, flying toward Geodude. Brock shouted, "Geodude, quickly dodge!" However, Razor Leaf was incredibly fast. Even though Brock gave the command, it still accurately hit Geodude.
Super effective!
After the thick smoke of the explosion cleared, Geodude looked pained. Seeing this, Brock ordered, "Geodude, use Rock Throw!"
Geodude raised its hands, and instantly, several large rocks appeared out of nowhere from beneath the ceiling, plummeting towards Bulbasaur. The area of effect was too wide. Ethan knew that Bulbasaur couldn't dodge it with its speed, so he decisively ordered, "Bulbasaur, aim at those rocks! Use Razor Leaf!"
Green light condensed, and Razor Leaf shot out again, striking the rocks. Although it shattered most of the rocks, many fragments still hit Bulbasaur. But even being struck by the rocks, Bulbasaur remained standing calmly in place, as if the minor pain was not worth mentioning at all.
Ethan is certainly proving to be a formidable challenger to Brock, even impressing Ash and Misty with his strategic choices! It seems Brock's Geodude is facing a tough battle against Bulbasaur's powerful Razor Leaf.
How will the battle against Brock continue?
