Not Mine to Win

There is a holy river. Many people drown in it and drink its water, but only a few gain magical abilities.

Those who receive magic and can form their powers into weapons are considered basic level.

Those who can go further—circulating their magic and wrapping it around their bodies—are called intermediate level.

When someone reaches the intermediate stage, they can unlock one of the five elements.

Most people reach this level around the age of 32, and going beyond that is extremely rare and very difficult.

Rook wraps magic around his hammer.

Rook charges and shouts, "Die, you little shits!"

The ground shakes.

He swings the hammer from above with full power.

Taro dodges just in time—the hammer smashes into the ground, breaking it apart, stone flying in all directions.

Taro wraps magic around his hand and blocks the next swing mid-air—bare hand against hammer.

CRACK!

The shock shakes his whole body. His feet drag back, leaving lines in the dirt—but he holds it.

He clenches his jaw, pushes the hammer away, then jumps—knee to Rook's chest, followed by a spinning kick to his face.

Rook grunts. He steps back, angry now.

Taro flips over it, lands, and rushes forward again.

Taro punches hard—once, twice, three times—each hit glowing with magic. His last strike lands on Rook's shoulder.

Taro yells with power, pushing back—throwing the hammer away with all his strength.

Rook flies backward, crashing into the ground, sliding across dirt and broken stone.

Smoke rises.

Kai is lying on the side. He kept his eyes open and watched the whole fight.

Taro said, "Hey Kai, this is not mine to win. This is yours."

"Unlike you I am not strong.

I couldn't protect anyone... not even myself.

I'm weak, Taro."

Taro… smiles lightly and says,

"Kai, you're not weak. You'll get stronger one day to protect people around you".

Taro's words echoed—just like his father's.

For a moment, Kai didn't see a boy…

He saw his father..

.

Now join with me to protect everyone.

Taro lends his hand to lift Kai.

Kai stands by Taro's side, joins the fight.

Rook staggers to his feet, brushing off dust and asked,

"Hey kid, you are rogue, right?"
