Digging Up the Past
The late afternoon sunlight streamed through the mansion's grand windows, but Elena's study remained dim. Her laptop glowed softly in the darkened room, her expression calm but her heart steady with determination.
For weeks, she had played her role as the elegant Mrs. Hart—charming, intelligent, ambitious—but today, she shed that mask in private. She wasn't here for boardroom battles or social games. Today, she was Aria… the woman who died too unfairly.
She had lived two lives. Aria, the businesswoman with sharp instincts, and now Elena Moore, the wife of a billionaire. It was time to uncover how Aria's life had been stolen.
Elena clicked open a secured file, the one she had been building quietly since regaining her memories. Her fingers flew over the keys as she traced back to the kidnapping incident.
Two months ago, as Aria, she had accompanied her cousin Camille to a business exhibition. That was the day everything had shifted. The news reports had said it was a random abduction, a tragic robbery gone wrong...one that led to her and her cousin being taken as hostages.
But Elena had lived through those final moments. She remembered Camille crying and screaming, pretending to be terrified. Aria had believed her cousin… even sacrificed herself to buy Camille time to escape so that she can call the police to come to their rescue.
Yet when she dug deeper, there were holes in the official reports...calls made by Camille that never appeared in the police files, large cash withdrawals by Camille's mother days before the incident, and worst of all… surveillance footage that mysteriously disappeared from that area on the day of the kidnapping.
Elena's expression hardened.
She scrolled through more evidence she had quietly gathered through a private investigator...as it wasn't yet time for her to showcase her hacking skills, someone she had hired through a proxy company to avoid any link to Stratus or Elena Moore .
Camille had inherited several properties after Aria's death, along with Aria's shares in a family project, shares that legally should have been tied up in court proceedings but were swiftly transferred to Camille's control.
A gut-wrenching realization settled in her chest: Aria had been betrayed by the very person she tried to save...someone she saw as the beloved sister she never had...people she saw as family.

Later that evening, Elena went down for dinner, her expression calm and calculated. Sebastian was waiting in the dining room, casually reading updates on his tablet.
"You seem quieter tonight," he remarked without looking up.
Elena smiled lightly. "Just business. Long zoom meetings."
Sebastian gave her a glance, lingering longer than necessary before turning back to his screen. He didn't probe, but Elena knew he noticed everything. Which was exactly why she couldn't let him know—not yet.
She needed time. Time to find proof. Time to expose Camille. Time to bring justice to the woman who died believing in family...and she was afraid of his reaction...who would believe such a fantasy about dying and waking up in the body of someone else.
After dinner, Sebastian retired to his study while Elena returned to her private quarters. She sent out a coded message to her investigator:
> "Focus on Camille's financial movements around the time of the kidnapping. Find out where she really was and who she contacted in those final hours."
Her lips pressed into a thin line.
You wanted me dead, Camille, Elena thought coldly, but I came back stronger… and I'm coming for you ...from the dark with a different identity while you're out in the open.
This time, she wouldn't just be a victim. She would be the reckoning.
