17) A small accident

As we arrived home, I went straight to my room and resumed my chakra training.

Perseverance is the key. Even if I can only improve my control over 0.01% of my chakra, this night will still be worth it. Only through training can I get better. Besides, I'm not that tired — when I circulate chakra, I recover some of my energy. Must be a perk of chakra itself.

Just like that, the night passed.

Today is Sunday. I could sleep in... but how could I sleep when today might be the day I break through in lightning chakra nature training?

I got ready and started my day. As I was heading out, I told my mom, "I'm going to the park."

"Okay, have fun," she replied.

When I arrived at the park, I went straight to my little hideout.

Wow. Now that I'm actually looking at it — this part of the park is destroyed. Burnt trees. Leveled grass. I guess that's expected. No one usually comes here, so I've been using it as my training ground — a place where I can freely release my jutsu.

Okay... time to test my theory.

I started gathering lightning chakra throughout my body. Not at full power — maybe just 30% of what I can currently transform — but still, a respectable amount.

If something goes wrong, I could fry myself, so I have to be very careful.

Whoa.

I only used around 30% of my lightning chakra, but I already feel so much stronger. Should I try using more…?

No. I need to stop. If I go further, I might burn my nerves.

Alright, let's test this.

Let's smash that rock.

"BAAM!"

Wow.

I stood there, mouth wide open.

The rock was pulverized.I thought lightning chakra would just buff my strength — but this? This changes everything.

...Gh.

My body's starting to feel sluggish. Okay, it's better if I stop now.

"Phew..." I sighed, dropping to the ground.

All these years, I've trained my body thoroughly to support lightning chakra, and yet — even with just 30% output — I could only sustain it for about a minute.

The Raikage really was a monster.

It's not a particularly difficult technique, but it taxes the body in unimaginable ways. And on top of that you need near-perfect chakra control.

"Hiro! Hah… hah… are you okay?" asked Shinso, catching his breath.

"Yeah, don't worry" I replied.

Oops — I might've caused too much noise.

"Come on Shinso. Let's go before someone else shows up" I said grabbing his arm and pulling him with me.

People might even think that noise was caused by a villain…

"What did you do to that rock?" Shinso asked, panting and looking a bit hopeless.

"I was trying out a new technique," I answered, without explaining much.

By the time we finished running, we ended up near a ramen shop and sat down to eat.

"Ahh, it's a pity that place will probably be discovered by now," I said in a sad tone.

"Yeah… we used that place for years, and now it's gone," Shinso replied concerned.

"Shinso, I've already told you — you can't say a word about that place" I said with a menacing tone.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. With all the damage you caused, it'll be obvious you used your quirk" said my purple-haired friend.

"And that's one more reason to shut up" I replied.

With everything wrapped up, we headed home.

When I got back, my mom ran toward me, looking very worried.

"Hiro, where were you?" she asked.

"I was at the park with Shinso, and then we grabbed some ramen. Why?" I answered.

"Don't you know what happened at the park?" she asked again.

…Uh-oh. Don't tell me—

"No, what?" I asked.

"There was an incident — a villain with a very strong quirk destroyed part of the park. Thank goodness you're safe. I was so worried," she said, hugging me tightly.

Damn. I really screwed up this time.

They counted all the damage I've caused over the years as a villain attack...

"But they already caught the villain — he started running as soon as the police arrived" she added a few minutes later.

Well then…

Thank you mystery villain for your sacrifice.

I will pray for you.
