Chapter Fifty-four

I was completing the finishing touches on Cecilia’s new phone. With what I’d added, she couldn’t be tracked, except by one program. I’d install that program on mine and Darren’s phone. When I looked up to the doorway, I dropped the phone to the desk. “What’s the matter?”

Cecilia was unusually pale and looked as if she were ready to faint.

I rushed her direction and reached for her hand. “Was it something the doctor said?” Shit, I’d been so preoccupied; I should have asked more questions. “Why did your parents want you to see a doctor?” I helped her to the sofa and crouched near her bare feet visible beneath her silk robe. “Cecilia talk to me.”

“I have the implant.”

What implant?

“The birth-control implant,” she clarified.

I nodded. “I guess that’s good. We haven’t exactly been careful.”

Cecilia reached for my hand. “It is 99.9999 percent effective.”

“If you want me to wear a condom...?”
