I reached for Greyson’s hand to keep me steadied. After over two weeks of loneliness, I couldn’t describe the euphoria of having him close. I’d grown to appreciate Darren’s constant presence; however, having a person around in no way compared to having a connection to a person.

“I’ve always stressed when Grandfather wanted family meetings,” I whispered as we walked down the long hallway toward the living quarters. “They often meant something bad.” I tugged on Greyson’s hand. “Is this going to be bad?”

His smile morphed to a straight line. “I won’t lie to you. It won’t all be good.”

“I just don’t understand how you’re here and how you know what I don’t.”
