Kael
The moment Elianah stepped out of the trial circle, something in Kael stirred — something ancient and unhealed.
He hadn't yet told her.
Hadn't dared.
But his shadow… remembered.
The gods had whispered about the Throne of Fire. But they had gone silent when it came to the Throne of Blood.
And that throne belonged to him.
As Elianah stood radiant in the aftermath of her awakening, Kael's chest tightened. The old mark on his back — one he'd hidden since childhood — began to pulse with crimson light.
The Circle saw it.
And called him forward.
> "Kael of Many Names.
Prince of the Lost Realms.
Bearer of the Second Flame.
You are summoned."
Elianah reached for his hand. He gripped it.
"Whatever it is," she said, "you don't face it alone."
He nodded… and stepped into the circle.
Flashback: The Life as Kaelen Vryx
The trial began with smoke.
He stood as Kaelen Vryx, the war general born from the stars — feared not for the wars he fought, but for the secrets he kept.
He remembered it now.
How in one lifetime, he was not Elianah's lover — but her executioner.
Not by choice. By manipulation. By oath.
He remembered her bound in gold, the crown torn from her head, her eyes still filled with love.
He remembered the blade.
"I'm sorry," he had whispered in that life.
"I forgive you," she had replied.
As he wept.
And then the blade came down.
Kael collapsed in the present, clutching his chest.
The pain wasn't just guilt.
It was binding.
The Mark of Vryx — a curse sealed by the Forgotten Gods — had never been broken.
> "Do you accept the blood you spilled?" the throne demanded.
"I do," he choked. "But I would give every life to rewrite that one."
The throne crackled. Flames of memory swirled around him.
A silver thread extended from his heart to Elianah's.
And then… it split.
Elianah cried out.
Something was wrong.
Kael's trial wasn't over — because someone else had entered the circle.
A figure stepped into the light, clothed in black wind and shadow.
Eyes gold as dying suns.
Voice low, familiar:
> "You thought only love would remember?
I am what you left behind."
It was himself.
Or rather — the fractured soul Kael had once discarded to become "worthy" of Elianah.
The Shadow Kael.
He smiled darkly. "It's time we finish what we started."
