The days at Tenkaido Academy flowed like a steady stream—lessons, training, and routine missions. But within that rhythm, something was changing. Renjiro had begun to notice strange sensations—shadows that moved where none should be, whispers when no one was there.
One evening, as the sun dipped low behind the mountain ranges, Renjiro was returning to his dorm when he felt it again—a heavy gaze watching him. He turned swiftly, and in the distance stood a figure cloaked in shadows.
Renjiro's eyes narrowed.
"Show yourself."
The figure stepped forward, revealing a tall boy with long silver hair, crimson eyes glowing faintly beneath the hood. His presence was cold… unsettling.
"You're... not from the Academy," Renjiro stated calmly.
"I am," the boy replied. "Just not from your world."
Renjiro's muscles tensed. The pressure was unnatural—like his soul was being scanned. Without warning, the boy struck. The two clashed in the courtyard in complete silence—no one else saw, no alarms triggered.
Renjiro summoned his blade; the mysterious boy dodged effortlessly.
"Who are you?" Renjiro demanded mid-fight.
"...Rafyel."
The name echoed within him, as if it belonged to something ancient. The battle grew fierce—techniques beyond normal students were exchanged. Rafyel was strong. Too strong. But he wasn't trying to kill Renjiro. In fact, it almost felt like… he was testing him.
Finally, Renjiro's blade halted inches from Rafyel's throat.
Rafyel smirked.
"You pass."
"What the hell was that!?" Renjiro snapped, panting.
Rafyel's smile faded slightly.
"I needed to know if you're ready. You've been marked, Renjiro. Forces beyond the Veil are stirring."
Renjiro's anger dropped into confusion.
"What do you mean?"
Rafyel turned, walking into the night.
"When the time comes… I'll be there. But until then—keep your eyes open. You're not alone anymore."
Renjiro stood frozen, staring at the vanishing silhouette.
A new mystery had entered his life… and with it, a strange sense of calm.
For the first time… he didn't feel completely alone.
