The morning haze had barely cleared when Renjiro arrived at the academy's ancient combat grounds — a place older than the city itself, now reserved for elite training. But today, it wasn't training that awaited him.
Arthur stood there, hands in his pockets, looking up at the stone statues of fallen heroes. "Funny," he said without turning. "We learn to fight like them, hoping we never end up like them."
Renjiro approached slowly, scanning him. Arthur wasn't just anyone. He was calm, composed, yet beneath his polite mask, there was something simmering — pain, pride, or perhaps a secret war within himself.
"You wanted to talk?" Renjiro asked.
Arthur turned to face him. His sharp green eyes locked onto Renjiro's. "I've heard whispers about you. About the power you hide. The way your aura burns, like something not of this world."
Renjiro tensed, his fingers twitching slightly. No one had ever spoken so directly.
Arthur stepped closer. "We are not the same as them, Renjiro. You're hiding your nature. I'm embracing mine. But we're both... broken weapons waiting to explode."
"What do you want from me?"
"A warning," Arthur replied. "Something is coming. I don't know what. But I saw it in my dreams last night — red skies, black flames... and your face. Standing in the center."
Renjiro's breath caught. It couldn't be a coincidence. The same vision had haunted his sleep for weeks.
Before more could be said, the academy bell rang — a rare triple chime. An emergency announcement.
Both turned. A dark cloud of smoke rose in the distance. Screams followed. A part of the city was under attack.
"Looks like fate won't wait for us to prepare," Arthur whispered.
Renjiro nodded. "Then let's stop pretending."
As they ran toward the chaos, side by side, Arthur smirked. "Let's see which one of us survives the prophecy."
And just like that, two of the most dangerous souls at the academy charged into battle — their fates now tangled tighter than ever.
To be continue....
