Carlos's POV
"It's just for a while, Mate. We promise to protect you at all costs even if it means putting our lives on the line." With a comforting tone, I said to Camelia, but I could see the terror and fear in her eyes.
I took her back to the tent so she wouldn't get involved in the fight. All of this happening was a fulfillment of the prophecy but I will do my best as her mate to reassure her of her safety with me.
There were three large, vicious hybrids, and I couldn't watch Xavier and Desmond battle them alone. Moving to join them outside, I took my sword from its sheath.
"Who sent you guys and what do you want from us?" Xavier asked, his voice deep and thundering as he slashed his sword on that of the bald hybrid.
"It's none of your business," Came from the voice of the bald hybrid whose name was Cain Logan.
He had this large cross mark on his forehead and he looked as though he was blind.
"What if I show you your place and teach your mouth how to do its function." I questioned as I took Xavier's place, thrusting my sword toward Cain and trying to jab him in the chest.
With a little sly smile, Cain took hold of my sword and split it in half.
It would take a lot of time to defeat the hybrids because they were a potent combination of two different kinds.
Cain's pupils grew bright orange as his eyes widened. I knew he was about to transform into a beast.
"This keeps getting worse but I'm sure I'm ready for you." I admitted, my eyes glowing fiercely with my bones cracking.
I transform into a wolf to exact revenge on anyone who enrages me during a fight.
After Cain and I shifted, we both ran and crashed into each other, fighting aggressively.
Desmond on the other hand continued his swift movements and kept dodging punches from the other hybrid who was keen on killing him.
The hybrid, Sean, transformed into a vampire so he could match up with fighting against a vampire like Desmond.
Xavier, who was the strongest among my mates, fought tirelessly with the third hybrid. He threw him on the floor and kept hitting his face with his fist a thousand times. blood spilled out from the hybrid's mouth and nose but he kept a cynical expression as he received punches from Xavier.
Just as Xavier gave him one last punch, he went limp.
As Xavier was about to stab the fallen hybrid, he noticed I was in danger so he stood up in an attempt to save me.
Seeing how distracted Xavier was, the hybrid he once tried to kill, grabbed a weapon in an attempt to kill him.
"Watch out, Xavier." A loud yell came from Camelia as she tried to alert Xavier of the hybrid's intention to kill him.
Before Xavier could turn to face the hybrid, he was overpowered and trapped in his grasp.
The fierce looking hybrid brought out his dagger and stabbed Xavier on the back.
"No!" Camelia yelled, emotions getting the best of her as she fixed her eyes on Xavier who was groaning. Her anger was visible and as as she kept screaming, the leaves rustled, trees bent in different directions as a mighty wind whirled angrily like it was responding to her screams.
In the twinkle of an eye, the three hybrids were carried and hurled in the heavy wind. They dropped down abruptly to the floor in an unconscious state.
Immediately Camelia stopped screaming, the wind stayed still and everywhere became calm.
"What just happened?" Desmond asked as he turned to face camelia, his face etched with curiosity.
"Are you alright?" I asked as I approached her with concern.
"Y- yes I'm fine." Camelia responded and as soon as we heard groans, we diverted our attention on Xavier, who was laying on the floor.
"Will you guys help me out or just stand there to discuss without me?" Xavier said, a light smile visible on his face as he stared at us.
We all scurried to his direction and he groaned as Desmond removed the dagger gently from his back.
"Thank the moon goddess. His wound isn't that deep." I said as I cleaned the blood on his back with a light cloth.
"Yeah! Just a little wound. It'll heal quickly,"
"But first," Xavier said and paused, staring at our faces.
"Get those goddam hybrids. We've got to ask them questions."
Desmond and I hurried in the hybrid's direction while Camelia stayed to tend to Xavier's wound.
The three hybrids looked pale with their body, starting to grow cold.
"They're dying." Desmond admitted as he turned to face me.
He held the hand of one of them but it went limp as soon as he dropped it.
"There's got to be a lucky one to survive among them. We need to get some information. They can't just die like that." I said in anger as I tried to check if their heart was still beating.
When one of them coughed, I opened his eyes forcefully, trying to know if he was still conscious.
"He's still alive." I said to Desmond who nodded in response.
We both shook him aggressively and splashed some water on his face.
He coughed once again before looking up to face us, "What on earth do you guys want from me? As you can see, I am partly dead."
"We know,"
"We just need you to answer some questions before we finally bid you goodbye, mate." I said to him with a cynical smirk before dragging him up by the collar.
"Who -sent- you?" I asked, my voice tinged with anger but the idiot made my blood boil and rage as he opened his mouth to release a chuckle.
"Do you think I'm cracking jokes for you? Tell me, is it funny?" I asked him as I brought out a dagger from the floor.
"I know how to handle cowards like him." Desmond muttered to me with a smile before reaching for a rake.
"Once I shove this into your stomach, then you'd be left with no choice but to spill out every detail."
"Now tell us. Who sent you guys to attack us?" I asked once again but he only continued with his chuckling.
Out of anger, I dragged the rake from Desmond's hand and shoved it in his arm.
"Answer me!!"
The hurt hybrid groaned in pain and finally confessed, "I– It's your half-brother Marcel."
My eyes dilated with disbelief, the rake dropping from my hands as I processed his statement.
"You mean Marcel asked you guys to kill me?" I asked, maintaining a curious gaze with him.
"Yes."
"Why did he ask you guys to do that and what does he want from me?"
"Why don't you figure that out?" The hybrid replied to me with a cunning mysterious smile which irritated me.
"Bravo! You know I could commend you for your bravery even at the point of your death." I muttered as I gazed into his hazel eyes furiously.
"And I'd gladly appreciate your compliment."
"Quit being an idiot and tell me where Marcel is." I asked him as I dragged him again by the collar.
"That is one thing I can never tell." The hybrid confessed, a sardonic smile appearing on his face as he stared at me.
"You know I could keep you alive right now and prevent you from dying just so I could see you suffer gruesomely till you spill out the truth from that stupid carven you call a mouth." I muttered angrily as I shoved him hard to the tree behind him.
"You're so full of humor. Little wonder I've been laughing since you walked up to me."
"That's it. Grab him Desmond. He shall follow us to my pack where we shall torture every single part of his body including every single strands of hair on his head."
I said to Desmond but before we could turn to face the hybrid, he hurriedly brought out a syringe and poke himself.
The hybrid dropped the syringe and said, "Goodbye Fellas. Nothing is much better than dying swiftly. I'd rather die than betray my master for telling you where he is."
Out of anger, I landed a huge punch on his face and his whole body went limp.
We went back to Xavier and Camelia when we saw that he was truly dead.
"Who is Marcel, Carlos?" Desmond turned to ask me while I paused my steps, finding the right way to answer him.
"Marcel is my half brother."
"Then why would your half brother want to kill you? I thought you're the only son of Alpha Varlos."
"No, Desmond. No,"
"Marcel had been a very good brother to me. We saw each other like we were born from the same parents and we've never hated each other. We grew into handsome teenagers and the whole pack looked up to us as the incoming Alpha,"
But when we turned eighteen, which was a year for us to have our first shift, Marcel turned into the best. There, our father realized he was a breed of a vampire werewolf. Our mother confessed her infidelity with vampires and she was killed. My dad drove Marcel out of the pack in anger and he became more strict than he ever was."
I explained to Desmond and Xavier, who paid keen attention to every detail.
"So now Marcel is back to torture you? Why would he want to do that?"
"Because he believed I took everything he ever owned. Ruling Goldmoon Pack had always been his dream but since that incident, he had never been able to achieve it.
"My father doesn't even want to set his eyes on him because he hates him. He's jealous because I got to receive enough care from my dad plus the fact that I am the Alpha of the pack now."
"I saw the way one of those hybrids glanced at Camelia. She's not safe. Who knows? Your brother might be planning some things against her." Desmond said, his face filled with care and concern as he stared at Camelia who was wrapping Xavier's wound.
"Says the guy who also has a brother plotting the same thing against our mate. Didn't the witch mention his name. What's it called? Was it not Damon?" Xavier said, his face etched with anger and worry as he sat up.
"Seems I'm the only fit person for Camelia. You both have brothers who would not think twice to harm her but I ain't got anyone to harm her."
Xavier emphasized as he wore his jacket and stood up.
"That's enough Xavier. We just have to work together to protect her. That's our duty as her mate, you know."
I said and Desmond agreed with a nod.
"I'd like to admit. I'm glad we have a strong beauty like her as a mate. She was the one who saved us from those hybrids,"
"You did control the wind, didn't you?" Xavier said as he turned to face a confused Camelia.
Camelia hesitated and finally said, "I - I don't know. It's quite unusual. I've never done anything like that before."
"Maybe they're your new powers," Desmond said with a warm grin as he stared at her.
***
We rode on our horses and continued our journey to Goldmoon Pack.
We didn't have much more time left as the sky was starting to dark.
After some minutes, we finally arrived at my pack – Goldmoon Pack.
I watched as some guards brought out their swords as soon as they sighted Desmond and Xavier.
"Who are you guys? Intruders?" One of the guards said as he gave them a calculating gaze.
As soon as I showed up, they kept their heads low in respect and greeted, "Welcome back Alpha Carlos."
"Let them in. They aren't intruders. They're my friends." I said to them and they nodded in response.
The large gate was opened and I walked in with the others.
Scanning the building, I observed noises coming from a distance.
Out of curiosity, I dragged a guard beside me and asked, "What exactly is going on and why is there so much noise?"
"It's Alpha Varlos, your highness. He has decided to kill Mr Stewart today."
The guard responded and I could see Camelia's eyes widened in shock.
"I thought he ordered his execution this weekend. It isn't even the weekend yet." I asked the guard with gritted teeth, my face filled with rage.
"He decided to kill him today to hasten your return."
