Kayla snuggled against his chest, a flash of triumph in her eyes.
Her fingers, however, were secretly tapping open my chat window on his phone. She snapped a photo of the two of them embracing on the hospital bed and sent it to me.
“Sis, Dominic is with me right now. He said he’ll always be on my side.”
“We got a little too wild last night. Men are always so rough, aren't they? He got a little carried away and hurt me. That’s why I’m in the hospital. Such a shame you've never experienced that, right?”
The moment the message was sent, Dominic's phone rang.
It was his assistant, Tony, calling to say that the funeral home had returned their final payment.
Karina had covered the entire cost herself.
Only then did Dominic remember he had promised to go to the cemetery with Karina.
After a long moment, a cold smirk spread across his face.
“I stood her up, so this is her excuse for giving me the silent treatment?”
“How childish!”
