Chapter 28: Don’t Joke Around — He Could Lose?

"Kid, I'll give you one last chance—tell me, exactly how did you get these demon wolf corpses?"

After receiving the demon wolf carcass for the fifth time, Elder Tōya, the inspector from the Tō clan, finally lost his patience.

"Picked them up, Uncle. You've asked me this several times already," Lin Binbin replied calmly.

"My mother said that kids who lie aren't good children. I'm a good kid—I wouldn't do that," Lin Binbin said casually. "Besides, you told me you'd accept all kinds of spirit beast meat. You're not trying to back out now, are you?"

"Uncle, you should be the one answering that—I trust you won't lie to me," Lin Binbin added.

After selling the first demon wolf carcass, Lin Binbin used spirit stones to buy four high-level storage bags. Each had at least fifty cubic meters of space, and now they were filled to the brim with demon wolf corpses.

There were even A-grade demon wolf kings among them. If the other side knew about this, they'd probably be crushed.

The air grew tense as a cold, blade-like glint flickered in Tōya's eyes.

Lin Binbin ordered his mech to drop the demon wolf corpses and suddenly chuckled. "Uncle, want more? There are plenty more in the forest. Otherwise, I can just drag them all back at once—no need for you to make so many trips."

Tōya's face changed sharply.

He thought the boy was just talking nonsense, but half an hour later, five identical demon wolf corpses were indeed dragged back.

"Thud—thud—thud—thud—thud." Five demon wolf bodies hit the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Tōya bent down to inspect them. All were E-grade spirit beasts, with tooth marks and dents—two distinct types of wounds. Most importantly, there was no trace of a Beast Tamer's aura on any of them.

"Could it still be that Beast Tamer from last time?" Tōya squinted and looked at the boy who was grinning foolishly. A strange feeling crept into his heart.

"Kid, where exactly did you find these demon wolf corpses?"

"Halfway up the mountain," Lin Binbin said politely with a smile, "but now they're all gone—I dragged them all back."

Tōya twitched his mouth, thinking: What a coincidence—when I asked, you said they were gone. Does he think I'm that easy to fool?

No sooner had he uttered "Hmm," Tōya bent forward, grabbed Lin Binbin's shoulder, and pinched hard.

"Ah—!" Lin Binbin gasped, his little face instantly scrunching up.

"Uncle, what are you doing? I came here to sell spirit beasts, why are you pinching me? If you keep this up, I'll scream."

Lin Binbin threw caution to the wind and shouted as loud as he could, "Everyone, come see! The Tō clan store bullies a seven-year-old child. Poor me—I lost my father when I was young, and now my mother is seriously ill..."

His childish voice quickly attracted a crowd. When they saw it was the Tō clan, murmurs spread like a flood, quickly drowning out any defense.

"How can they even bully a child?"

"In recent years, the Tō clan's subordinates have grown more arrogant. I heard recently in the eastern street there was a similar case—the person even had their leg broken."

The crowd gasped, glaring angrily at Tōya.

Their fiery stares seemed ready to ignite him, and under mounting public pressure, Tōya finally let go of Lin Binbin.

He ground his teeth and warned in a low voice, "Kid, don't you dare lie again, or you'll regret it."

Lin Binbin grinned and suddenly took a quick step back under Tōya's shocked gaze, then "Ouch!" he fell to the ground.

"It hurts! Uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, don't blame him—it was my own clumsiness," Lin Binbin curled up, clutching his arm, looking both pained and shy, instantly stirring everyone's protective instincts.

Public outrage swelled. The Tō clan had no choice but to double the originally agreed price and threw in some extra compensation for emotional distress. Only then did the matter settle.

With the money in hand, Lin Binbin jumped up immediately, dusted himself off, and cheerfully bounced away.

Would Lin Binbin ever admit defeat on his own turf?

No way!

"Elder Tōya, what do you think about this—"

"Search! Even if it means turning the whole county upside down, we must find information about this kid," Tōya said darkly, staring at the retreating figure. "Also, send someone to check the halfway point on the mountain. If what the kid said is true, that Beast Tamer might not have gone far."

"Yes, sir."

Indeed, the so-called Beast Tamer Tōya mentioned was enjoying gourmet food inside the Xiangmanlou restaurant.

"This is delicious. Sanzi, this chicken really lives up to its reputation," he said.

The Beggar's Chicken had been specially prepared, its skin golden and fragrant. The moment it was served, Cheng Mo couldn't resist and tore off a piece, stuffing it into his mouth.

The next moment, he jumped, burned, but unwilling to spit it out, struggled a bit, eyes watering, and swallowed hard.

"Is this better than spirit beast meat?"

"A hundred times better!" Cheng Mo mumbled, mouth full of meat.

His father, though a supervisor, occasionally brought back spirit beast meat, but the cooking was so bland he usually spat it out.

But this Beggar's Chicken melted in the mouth, juicy and exquisite—a true delicacy.

Seeing Cheng Mo's enthusiasm, Lin Binbin grabbed a piece too, savoring it carefully. As soon as it touched his tongue, it was as if his taste buds reawakened. Eyes brightening, he quickly ran over to grab more chicken.

They fed each other bite by bite, and in minutes the whole Beggar's Chicken was gone.

Cheng Mo looked at the empty plate, embarrassed, wiping his mouth as he said, "Honestly, I ate too fast earlier and didn't really taste it. Maybe... another one?"

"Sure, let's have another!" Lin Binbin was still a bit full but nodded at once.

This time, they ate more politely, at least blowing on the chicken before eating. Whether Cheng Mo actually tasted it or not was unclear, but his hand was faster than ever.

Finally, after spitting out the last bone, both slumped back in their chairs, sighing in relief.

"That was amazing. I wish I could eat such delicious food every day," Cheng Mo sighed, wishing he could live here.

"Who says you can't? Once this demon wolf task is completed and reported, at least your crimes should be cleared."

Saying that, Lin Binbin thought of something, took off one of the storage bags from his belt, and placed it on the table.

"Here, this one's for you."
