The Next Morning
"Ugh," Lara groaned, stabbing at her scrambled eggs. "Zayn Callahan is impossible. Tall, cold, always brooding like a vampire CEO. Why are the hot ones so emotionally unavailable?"
Neno laughed. "Sounds like you have a crush."
"It's more like fear," Lara retorted. "He's too serious. The whole floor goes silent when he walks past."
After Lara left for work, Neno stayed on the couch watching a news segment. Emily wiped the table when the screen changed.
"Zayn Callahan, CEO of Callahan Global Enterprises, was recently named the city's most eligible bachelor…"
A photo of Zayn appeared — crisp black suit, stern expression, piercing eyes.
"Handsome," Neno murmured. "I bet he's got a girlfriend tucked away somewhere."
"No," said the anchor. "He is currently single and not known to be dating."
Emily, now standing still, found her fingers frozen around the dishcloth. Her eyes locked on the TV. Something about Zayn's face tugged at her soul — a quiet knowing, like she'd seen him in another life.
> Why do I feel this way…?
She blinked and shook it off.
"I need to find a job," she said aloud, grabbing her notepad. "Any job. Anything."
