Chapter 5: The Right Time to Make a Great Grandchild

"You bought—"

Before Lin Lin could finish speaking, Yu Man quickly shifted the shopping bags from her right hand to her left, grabbed Huo Jingze, and briskly walked away.

Once they turned the corner and saw that Lin Lin wasn't following them, she let go and rubbed her left hand, which had red marks from the shopping bags.

"If we talked to her any longer, all your hard-earned money spent just to save face would've been exposed," Yu Man muttered.

Huo Jingze smiled to himself. Good thing she pulled him away.

At Jiayun Community.

Back at home, Yu Man carefully placed the five shopping bags in the living room.

Huo Jingze sprawled out on the couch and lit a cigarette with ease.

Yu Man stood before him obediently. "I'll return the clothes tomorrow."

She had thought it over on the way back and decided this was the best approach. She hadn't even opened the bags—big department stores would definitely allow returns.

But hearing her, Huo Jingze's brows twitched. His tone went a little cold:

"If you dare return those thirty thousand yuan worth of clothes, don't even think about it."

Yu Man nodded obediently and took the bags into her room.

Once inside, she opened them to check just how much everything cost.

Each large shopping bag held a full outfit, and to make it easier to carry, the shoes were packed separately but tucked inside.

There were shirts, jeans, skirts, high heels, and canvas shoes.

Seeing the canvas shoes reminded her that she still hadn't picked up her old clothes and shoes. She had been so focused on putting on an act, she forgot about them.

She counted—there were five outfits and five pairs of shoes.

Pulling out her phone, she added up the price tags. Just the clothes alone cost over 8,000 yuan—not even including the shoes.

Yu Man felt dizzy.

She kept two outfits and one pair of shoes, plus the one she was already wearing. That made three outfits—enough to rotate in front of Huo Jingze.

The rest she carefully repacked, planning to return them tomorrow. She'd also grab her old clothes while she was at it.

Meanwhile, Huo Jingze, finished smoking, glanced at her firmly shut door.

She better not be looking at the price tags…

Just as he was about to knock, his phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID said "Grandma," a tight feeling seized his throat.

She probably found out he got married.

Sure enough, the moment he answered, an elderly yet energetic voice rang out:

"Jingze! When are you bringing your wife home for me to meet?"

Huo Jingze glanced at Yu Man's room and walked to the balcony. His deep, husky voice responded,

"Grandma, when the time is right, I'll bring her to see you."

"You better not keep me waiting too long," she said, excited. "I want a great-grandchild! You'd better hurry!"

Huo Jingze pressed his lips together. Hearing the sound of a door opening, he quickly responded, "Got it, Grandma. Gotta go," and hung up.

Then he stood there nonchalantly, pretending to admire the view.

At Tinglan Villa.

Back at the villa, Huo Jingze's grandmother, Song Mizhen, sat stunned for a moment with the phone in her hand.

"Hmph! That brat not only refuses to bring my granddaughter-in-law home, he even hung up on me!"

Butler Kang brought over a plate of fruit. "Madam, it's late. The young master and his wife probably have… things to do."

Song Mizhen's expression instantly softened.

He's right. It is the right hour for making a great-grandchild…

She stood up and muttered to herself, "Still, that rascal's got me curious. If he won't show her to me, I'll sneak over tomorrow myself."

Leaving the fruit untouched, she tightened her robe and went upstairs with surprising agility.

She knew how picky her grandson was—hardly any women had ever gotten close to him. She was already preparing for endless blind dates. Who knew he'd suddenly register a marriage?

Well, that was one worry off her list.

The next morning.

Yu Man woke up on the plush bed feeling sore all over. Her waist and neck ached. She'd sunk into the mattress all night and couldn't move.

Having slept on a hardboard bed all her life, this kind of fancy mattress was unbearable.

She got up and flipped the mattress over with effort, hoping the firmer side would help.

The mattress landed with a thud on the wooden bed frame.

Across the hall, Huo Jingze jolted awake.

What the hell is she doing, fighting a war in there?

Frowning, he rubbed his temples and checked the time.

6:30 a.m.

He sighed and got out of bed, walking to her room and knocking.

Yu Man opened the door, rubbing her head in confusion.

"What are you doing so early? Sounds like an air raid in here," Huo Jingze said, his voice still hoarse and magnetic from sleep.

She quickly apologized, "Sorry for waking you. The bed's too soft, my back hurt. So I flipped the mattress."

He glanced at her face—bare, fair, and delicate. Seeing that, he couldn't bring himself to scold her.

Never heard of someone complaining a mattress was too soft.

"You done flipping it?"

"Yeah."

She was wearing an oversized T-shirt, making her look even smaller. Her long hair fell messily over her shoulders, exuding a kind of lazy charm.

Didn't expect her to be that strong. All that food she ate really turned into muscle, not fat.

Yu Man looked at him too.

After a full night's sleep, his hair was still perfect, and he looked fresh and clean. A true city man.

"You…" they both started at the same time.

Huo Jingze cleared his throat. "You hungry?"

She swallowed hard.

Of course she was. He hadn't mentioned dinner at all yesterday, and she had no money. Too embarrassed to bring it up, she ended up going to bed hungry. Is this guy a vampire or something?

Before she could answer, her stomach growled loudly.

"Grrrr—"

Huo Jingze raised an eyebrow.

"I'll go get breakfast. I'm just grabbing whatever. Don't get picky."

"Not picky, not picky at all," she responded quickly.

She wouldn't dare be picky—having food was already a blessing.

Once she returned her clothes at noon, she'd have some cash. Then she could cook and clean—couldn't just eat and sleep here for free.

Huo Jingze went downstairs to the breakfast shop.

Thinking of how much she could eat (like two whole bowls of noodles), he bought two trays of buns, three cups of soy milk, three eggs, two fried dough sticks, and more.

He wasn't sure what she liked, so he got a bit of everything.

The shop owner was shocked at the good-looking man before her.

Feeding a pig or what?

Back home, Yu Man was already seated at the dining table, waiting.

"You're sitting there so properly. Real well-behaved," he teased.

Yu Man smiled awkwardly.

She had gone to the kitchen to grab bowls and chopsticks, but found it completely empty.

He probably didn't cook often—that explained why the place felt so lifeless. It was like he just moved in.

Huo Jingze laid out the breakfast. The small table, enough for four, was soon packed.

"Think you can finish this?" he asked, handing her two cups of soy milk.

Yu Man had just opened her mouth wide to bite into a bun when she heard that. She paused mid-bite and daintily took a small nibble.

"Umm… probably not?" she replied cautiously, unsure if he wanted her to finish it or not.

"Then what's the point of buying it? Might as well throw it all out," he said, reaching to take it away.

She immediately grabbed his hand.

"You should've said you wanted me to finish it! I thought you…"
